DVR: cannot plan recording from Android app

I deleted my TV library, and left my DVR library, and now I can set recordings using the guide w/ my remote (Nvidia Shield). But, I am of course now missing my TV library.

Thanks for the update. Can you explain the “bigger piece of work” that you referred to? Are you working on a major update to the DVR?

Hello @daioio, Just a heads up, I discovered this morning that I appear to be having this issue as well.

I recently rebuilt my DVR in preparation for the new guide data. As a result, my wife and I had to set up all of our recordings again. When doing so I believe that we set the recordings to go into my “Recorded TV” library where they belong. However, I later discovered that they were all set to go into my main TV library instead. I updated all of the existing recordings to go to the correct library in the web interface.

Today I decided to test this by creating a recording set to go to the “Recorded TV” library on my phone and then check the web interface to see if it kept the library correctly. I then discovered that I can’t schedule recordings on my android phone at all now. I am seeing the same behavior as everyone else. Go to schedule recording. “Add to library” is blank. Pressing “Record Episode” results in “An error has occurred, please try again later.” which I assume is because no library is selected, but when I press the “Add to Library” field, and try to select one of the two available libraries the dialog disappears like it accepts it, but the “Add to library” field remains blank and I still get the same error.

More than happy to test things or attempt to pull logs for you if that would help.

@daioio Just following up. Can you provide more info on this bug and the “bigger” update. What’s the bigger update? Is that for DVR on the server side, Android client, or both?

PLEX:

Not trying to be a toll here, but Plex is just flaky and does not work right. Multiple phones and on Android TV. It was working for a while there, to an acceptable degree, but now its crashing on my phone, when it does it work, it may crash again, DVR today all of a sudden saying when going to the guide ‘an error has occured, please try again later’. This is after a reinstall of Plex on Android TV, rebooting HD Homerun, rebooting the server. I’m now doing to deleted the DVR on the server and ‘reinstall’ it, but I shouldn’t have to do that. It should just work. I know you want a log (probabably not since we can’t even get support), but I won’t be providing a log since I’m sick of spending time on this. I’m going to see if reinstalling the DVR works, if it does or does not, I’m going to give Emby a try as someone suggested in my post below which I also cannot get support for. I’m done.

@major_briggs, I understand your frustration. This features is broken for over a year and it is still not fixed. As a software developer, If one of our client report a bug like this, we stop whatever we do and work on a fix.

@daioio, I understand you are refactoring lots of stuff in the mobile app but for the moment, what we need is a working DVR support on Android. Nothing more. Please, put that refactoring on the ice for the next sprint and please fix this ASAP.

I also have the “An error has occurred” error. Attached the error logs.An error has occurred.txt (9.2 KB)

@daioio Can you please provide an update on the DVR fixes? I saw the Android update hit the store today with a bunch of fixes, but sadly nothing for DVR. I’m still wondering what this update is that you’re talking about.

Hi All,

Just to let you know there are some fixes about to land in the codebase shortly so our next beta (next week) should start to have some DVR fixes in there :slight_smile:

Appreciate the patience again. I will drop another message here when the beta containing some of the fixes is available :slight_smile:

Thank you for working on this. I just joined Plex and signed up for the Pass, and was about to bail on getting this DVR library selection to work via Android phones or Shield TVs until I found this post. I may stick with Plex if it’s fixed.

No change to recording from android client in 8.12.3.22784-beta

@bamirb Thanks for the update.

Is the update that dropped today what you were referring to? There’s only 1 bullet in release notes and nothing about DVR fixes. Is there a different beta coming this week?

Hey all,

New beta just landed (8.13.0) with some DVR fixes.

Let me know how you get on with that version and if you are still seeing issues

Thanks again everyone

:slight_smile:

good news.
I have 3 folders I can save the recordings to.
All of them didn’t work before but the in 8.13.0.22830 the first of the 3 can be selected and recordings seem to work. recordings can be saved to all 3 using the web client.

I also found that after successfully setting the recording to the first folder and then changing the destination to any of the other folders, updates the destination successfully. it just doesn’t work when the other folders are selected the first time.

Good to hear. I will give this a try soon.

That looks wonderful. I register twice for the beta and never got the email. I run 8.13.0.22986 (6f9ed259) and I still can’t record from my phone. I still have the “An error has occurred” error when I tried to schedule a record. An error has occurred.txt (111.9 KB)

I get the same message with rolled out version 8.13.1.23036.

‘An error has occurred, please try again later’.

@daioio - Please advise?

@daioio, I get the same results as @mattd_robinson with the latest versions

@daioio I’m able to schedule recordings from Android again, but a new issue just popped up. If trying to schedule a Team recording, an error message pops up on Android saying, “a playlist library is required”. What the heck is a playlist library? Can you please get this fixed?

And, fix the issue with searching live TV not working on Android? It’s very difficult to schedule recordings, because the only way to schedule is through the guide.
