Recording Priority says "No upcoming Airings" on tv shows

When i record a TV show the Recording Priority is says “No upcoming Airings”. I can watch it live. Movies work. I have a HDHomeRun DUAL , Manage Channels does not show Protected on. it seams to be a problem for all TV shows.
How can I record TV shows?

If i Select one episode at a time it seams to work.
I tried to re-scan with Enhanced Program Guide no luck
I found some tv shows that worked.
So what next?

Same issue here. Just scheduled to record college gameday before it began today. Scheduled recordings does not have it in the grid and recording priority shows that there are no upcoming airings. Program Guide > On Now shows that the show is in progress. I canceled the scheduled recording and started to record the show already in progress and that works, however can’t actually schedule so that it repeats due to the no upcoming airings status in scheduled recordings. baahhhh humbug

Can either of you provide screenshots of your recording settings including the advanced settings as well as the recording schedule and recording priority and viewing the Program Guide for the show that shows each upcoming episode.

I’ve got a similar issue–can’t record scheduled tv episodes. The recording schedule shows no upcoming airings, while the program guide shows upcoming airings just fine.

Recording eps that are in progress works fine.

I’m on a Windows 10 Home OS, Intel Core i7-6700HQ 2.60 GHz, 16 GB RAM.

@gorboduc can you post your Plex Media Server logs?

And the logs…

Guessing you have all of the upcoming episodes in your Plex Library from these entries in your logs:

Then it should show that message, ideally with a link to the match. It should then allow us to record it anyway in case the match is wrong or worse quality or different language.

On my side, I’m trying to record the show “Blue moon”. If I schedule the whole series, it shows “No upcoming airings”. If I schedule episodes individually, there is no problem.

I tried a few times, and scheduled quite a few recordings, so the logs might be filled with useless data. I added them anyway in case it helps.

I found the following line in the logs (repeated in blocks of 3 - once per episode available in the current EPG data) :
Sep 16, 2017 17:22:21.628 [5892] DEBUG - DVR:Subscription: Failed to resolve subscription for ‘guid: com.gracenote.onconnect://show/13575731 thumb: https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/w154/1wy9vPwXuyi89yVELnnRHYGlhv4.jpg title: Blue Moon type: show year: 2016’ to library item

Why would the match be wrong? Show Name - Season # - Episode # if it is in your library Plex doesn’t record it again. Unless you have the option to “Replace lower resolution items” selected which I see fairly often on shows that were recorded in SD or 720 and are aired again on another station in a higher resolution.

I see Blue Moon S1 E1 scheduled in your logs for tomorrow. Just can’t tell whether this was a series recording or an individual episode since you said you tried both.

I did see several other series you had setup, including one of them below as the others were similar situations. For this one recording I can tell it is a series because it has 3 episodes been evaluated for recording in the log. From the first entry below it appears you have the Airings option set to “New Airings Only” versus “New and Repeat Airings”. The first line says you are looking for a premiere (or new airing) so it is ignoring the old airing ( or repeat). The other two are being scheduled for recording.
Sep 16, 2017 17:31:04.003 [12060] DEBUG - DVR:Subscription: We want a premiere, and ‘L’indice McSween - E1 - Votre Big Mac est-il trop cher?; L’amour a parfois un prix’ is an old airing, ignoring.

I personally setup all of my series recording to record New and Repeat Airings and have the option to replace lower resolution options selected. If I already have an episode in my library for a show and it is the same resolution I do not see the show recorded again, if the airing is a higher resolution than what I already have in my library the airing is recorded. In the last week I have had several Big Bang Theory episodes from season 1 recorded to replace lower resolution items in my library.

The successful ones were individual recordings I setup after a few failed attempts for the series recording.

None of these shoes are in any of my library.

For the old airing, I guess I misunderstood the setting. I thought it was to avoid recording re airings, which the item I scheduled was since I missed the original airing earlier this week. I considered that episode to be a new airing, unlike Plex.

In Plex New Airings Only means to only record shows that are identified in the guide data as a New or Premiere episode. While New and Repeat means to record all Airings of a show. If the episode already exists in the library you are recording to, Plex will not record that airing unless it is higher resolution than the recording you have and you have the option to replace lower resolution recordings with higher recordings.

How can I record TV shows?

I have exactly the same symptoms. Just started using plex, been getting these symptoms from the very first attempts to record. If I record a series it says “no upcoming airings” if I record individual shows they record.

This is a bug, which should be easy to replicate. I have also seen the same issue with individual recordings.

In my Library I only have S4 EP20/21 from successful (individual) recordings

Also I noted a minor UI bug related to this. When A show is recording, it shows up as “no upcoming airings” even though it is actually being recorded.

Heres My logs for reference.

You are setting individual episode recordings not a series recording. A series recording would say Series where the season episode is displayed.

With individual episode recordings Plex is saying there are no upcoming airings that start from the current time over the next 14 days of guide data or however many days of data are available. The episode might be recording as you showed but there is not another upcoming airing of the episode found.

If you want to record a series:

Thanks.

The screenshot shows individual recordings because recording a series was not working (I was getting the “No Upcoming Airings” message appear. So I reverted to individual recordings to see if that would work. Some episodes recorded, but still, I could see the same, “No Upcoming Airings” message appear. Something is clearly not right here.

Ill continue to test, and continue to report my findings as related to this issue on this thread. Ive just created another series recording, lets see how this one fares…

If you are setting the Airing record option to “New Airings Only” then you would see the no upcoming airings in the Recording Priority if all of the upcoming airings shown for the show are repeat airings. The “New Airings Only” is looking for episodes that are marked as “New” in the program guide. New meaning that the episode is the first time it has ever aired. The “New and Repeat Airings” option on the other hand will record all episodes that you do not already have in your library.

That’s very useful to understand, thanks. It sounds like “New and repeat” should be the default setting in order to avoid a recording not taking place because its actually a repeat airing, but that repeat is in fact the first instance of the episode that the user has attempted to record.

I do appreciate that getting these sorts of powerful options settings right so that things “just work” but also allow for powerful customisation is tricky…

Im still seeing this behaviour. Ive been testing just by recording movies, in the hope that these will give a better understanding of the issue.

So a few days ago, I successfully scheduled the recording of “theres something about mary” on CH5HD. Date and time of recording show up ok. A couple of days later, the same scheduled recording comes up with “no upcoming airings”.

If I delete that scheduled recording and add it again, then its looks fine, with the date and time of the airing showing up.

Any ideas how to fault find this? There is definitely something not right here.

Using a movie will not test anything in this case. You recorded the movie so it is in your library which is why the “no upcoming airings” is displayed. Plex is working exactly as it should, it already exists in your library so it is not going to record it a second time unless the second airing is a higher resolution and you have specified in the advanced settings to replace with higher resolution recordings.
