Server Version#: 1.41.3.9232
DSM 7.2-64570 Update 3
Since the last update of the Plex Server, editions are no longer read (the format has not changed, ex. {edition-Director’s Cut}, at least the help page is not updated).
The field is still editable in the interface and it is displayed if manually edited. But it is not automatically populated when adding a new movie with the above edition information in the filename. Until this version, everything was working smoothly.
Later edit. I have just discovered that source tags like {imdb-tt0111161} also stopped working.
First of all, 4.141.0 is the version of Plex/Web not the Plex server. The Plex server version is found in Plex Settings > Server > General and NOT in Plex Settings > Plex Web > General.
I just checked and I am having the same issue with 1.41.3.9232 running on DSM 7.1.1.
It is also occuring on PC (Windows 11 Pro) and DSM 6.2.4.
Thank you for checking yourself, even if you initially took the time to write down the troubleshooting steps. Probably I should have said from the beginning that this is not something new that I tried (I have a long-term fully functional Synology Plex Installation), but instead something that abruptly stopped working - it might have saved you some time with the suggestions about permissions, screenshots, etc.
I have just noticed, also the {imdb-tt0111161} stopped working, so there might be something with the {} part.
My initial thinking was that it was something related to your system setup, but after testing for myself, I discovered that it is indeed something new.
Since it appears to cover all platforms, then I imagine the issue lies in the code itself. Perhaps someone forgot to dot an I or cross a T or something … lol
For me, the {imdb-tt0111161} type tags have not appeared to work for some time now. I thought perhaps it was issues with downloading the metadata or database listings etc…
That said, Plex did not fail to identify the files correctly, and it populated the metadata, so I am not sure if it actually ignored the tags or not.
I do know that manually searching for a match using the ID failed every time though, where once upon a time it would succeed.
That appears to be working now though.
I just hope the engineers can locate the issue quickly and release an update soonish that corrects the issue.
Regarding the {imdb-xxx} tag, this was working for me until this last update. For collections like “Pirates of the Caribbean” I format the titles of the movies with the year at the beginning, to have them in the order of appearance (and without the “Pirates of the Caribbean” prefix), like so: (2016) Dead Men Tell No Tales {imdb-tt1790809}.mkv
and this was working well, but now I moved those movies to another library, Plex did a re-discover and matched that to Dead Men Tell No Tales (2016) - IMDb
It sounds like you had a similar experience to me, where it does not appear to work at first, but matches correctly anyway.
Personally, I name all of my files correctly and then use the Sort Title to make sure they are shown in the correct order whenever they do not.
Plex will normally show them in the correct order now, without using the Sort Title.
E.G.
Pirates Of The Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (2006).mp4 Sort Title = Pirates 2006
Pirates Of The Caribbean - At World's End (2007).mp4 Sort Title = Pirates 2007
Yes, that anyway (and the collection has options to sort by title, release date, etc., too), but I really want the files in correct order on the filesystem, too, that’s why I put the year first.
Figured commenting here would be better than making another thread on the exact same issue:
Can confirm this exact same problem on Plex server for Windows.
Server Version#: 1.41.3.9232
Player Version#: 4.141.0 on 127.0.0.1 - 4.142.1 on app.plex.tv (irrelevant)
Since 1.41.3.9232, my server doesn’t read the {edition-Tag} for movies properly. It does seem to recognize that there’s something off, since it makes a new version of the movie instead of adding it as a second file to the same movie (as it does without any {edition} tags in the filename) but it doesn’t populate the Edition field at all. Just leaves it blank. I can then manually fill the Edition field, and that shows up fine, but that’s not how this should work.
Just adding to the statistics - Yes, it appears that {edition- } stopped working altogether. Old entries still have them, but if I simply rename an existing entry, the edition subtext will disappear from the plex display. No amount of rescanning and re-naming will bring it back.
Server running Version 1.41.3.9232 and I only noticed it today.
Just dropping in to state that we are aware of the issue with Edition tagging not working properly on 1.41.3.9232. We have an internal issue tracking. Sorry I don’t have an ETA.
Just checked out the fix for this issue. This fix and a couple others will be released to the Beta channel soon .
Something to note though, anything that was added with the Edition file tagging while on 1.41.3.9232 will not automatically get picked up after updating and scanning, refreshing, or analyzing these items. You will need to readd this media for the Edition tagging to get picked up (Plex Dance).
If you already manually added the Edition tagging via the WebUI on anything affected by this issue while on 1.41.3.9232, then you’re fine.
