If you are having issues on NVIDIA SHIELD, GO TO APP SETTINGS AND UNINSTALL THE UPDATE. This will allow everything to go back to normal. Your welcome.

Create another custom category and rename it. You will have to update artwork.
Uninstalling the update doesn’t necessarily uninstall a single rollback. It seems to uninstall all updates. Then you have to create a new server and repopulate it. That’s not really fixing it. I thought this was a video conversion issue at first, but obviously not.

I tried to uninstall the update, but then it reset my whole media server and I had to start it all from scratch, setting up new folders etc - so now I’ve lost ability to add anything so I’ve basically got no server at all right now, except music works. No movie update/remove and no TV update/remove.
Can someone describe how to use Plex Video Scanner vs. the usual Movie Scanner? Would like to see, at least, if this is a viable workaround for now.
So glad I found this after only 3 hours of troubleshooting my new Nvidia shield. Pft.
I though for sure it was something I screwed up.
Lots of new Shield users and Plex fubarred things. I finally gave up and returned it. Then saw all the troubles here, but too late. I got it for my dad and he wanted nothing to do with it after all the time we wasted trying to get it to work today. Sad the depths Plex has fallen in recent weeks with all the untested crap they’re putting out.

I just wish I would have found this thread before spending a couple hours tonight debugging, wiping my library (losing all meta data), and scouring the internet for clues of the issue. After switching scanners, scanning and finding all of my media, updating all meta data, I come across this post.

Emby`s looking pretty damn good at the moment - Especially since theyve got a shield server now as well
go to plex home, select your movie library -> edit -> advanced -> search for ‘scanner’ and select “Plex Video Files Scanner”

Only works for Movies, I’m afraid. There is no workaround I was able to find for TV Shows.
Brand new shield user here with exactly the same problem. Stayed up so late last night trying to fix this thinking I was doing something wrong.
Hopefully an update is rolled out soon.
Only wish I found this thread before multiple factory resets on my new nvidia shield.

I switched to Emby. It took like 15 mins to get up and running on my shield. It’s awesome. Even when Plex was working, it took much longer to get it up and running…

I have uninstalled the PMS updates on my Shield TV and I am able to make new libraries finaly. This means however I have to remake my entire collection 
Not fun…
