ExoPlayer Playback Error - “An error occurred trying to play ….” starting from 7.28 on Fire Stick 4K

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2468
Player Version#: 7.29.0.15876

Hi folks,

I’ve found a potential bug on Plex new player starting from 7.28 on.

In facts, trying to reproduce a movie 480i/AC3 that was reproduced fine on 7.27.1.15203, I receive an error “An error occurred trying to play …” and I can’t see it with the ExoPlayer. Everything is going well with the old player, all versions.

Some logs:

movie 480i/AC3 with ExoPlayer (7.29.0.15876) NOT WORKING:

https://pastebin.com/kFysbc42

movie 480i/AC3 with old player (7.29.0.15876) WORKING:

https://pastebin.com/6AumzVMv

movie 480i/AC3 with ExoPlayer (7.27.1.15203) WORKING:

https://pastebin.com/pKLh4tp4

Two final considerations:

  • the issue is present also on 7.28
  • I see issues also with some 1080p movies (they stop working) starting from 7.28 and ExoPlayer.

Hope this helps to solve the issue, please let me know if you need more details.

thanks
Andrea

please try 7.29.1 version.

tried with 7.29.2.16071

NOT WORKING.

Or at least: with 480i it works only if you start the video from the beginning (if you restart from a certain point in time, it doesn’t work at all).

Also with some 1980 this is not working.

see my logs:

with old player, all fine.

Only Version I could get to work somewhat reliable is;
kepler-armv7a-amazon-stdExo-7.27.1.15203-5c57babb

I posted a list of things I found wrong with both 7.29.1 and 7.29.2…
they did beta a 7.30 but I’m not aware of anyone that could get that one to actually run, it would crash on booting…

waiting on the next move…

edit; the ExoPlayer is being worked on at exoplayer-amazon-port
working known bugs, it affects any apps on the fire stick that uses it.

But is here someone from Plex looking at our posts?

Just to know …

There are so many treads created for these Fire Stick issues it hard to keep track of…
I have seen input from many on the Plex team… also they do keep trying betas but without much success so far…

I’m waiting to see if Plex makes an announcement… since it seems to impact so many.

Thanks for your feedback and log. I will discuss with the development team.

Could you get me a sample file that we can use to reproduce the issue

Thanks

oh wow … I don’t know how … I have only movies (GB …).

Let me check how can I do that. Btw can you please send me a mail to send the requested videos?

Use Private Message forum feature. Click on my name and then click “Message”

There are tools to chop files - eg mkvtoolnix for mkv files. See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201035968-generating-sample-files-from-media/

Thank you man

I love Plex and I would like to see this solved very soon. Unfortunately I can only collect as much info as possible.

I hope to see also the Live TV480i issue on Fire stick 4k solved. Step by step I’m sure Plex team can do

@sa2000 any update by the dev team?

thanks

I have Amazon Fire stick 4k that fails to play DVR created files with HDHomeRun. Most other files on my server play fine, but the .ts files created with the DVR fail and the live tv play fails as well. I learned that turning off the “Enable New Video Player” in advanced settings makes it work again. But I really like the new player interface. Any word on an update that corrects the .ts failures?

@sa2000 still waiting for good news
