No idea what OS your server is running?
But if you can browse from it, can you reach https://www.opensubtitles.org/ ?
is already in operation
Iâm on Windows 11 and yes I can reach https://www.opensubtitles.org/ and sign in just fine.
Please reproduce, and then upload a zip with the PMS logs
Did the logs help? Is there fix for this yet? I canât be the only person with this problem. I didnât change anything and it was working just fine a week ago. Trying not to be impatient, but manually downloading subtitles is a pain. Just want to make sure I wasnât abandoned with no help in sight.
Okay, I just noticed there was a new version but itâs dated the 8th. Installed it, problem didnât go away, so I did another clean install and it is finally working somewhat. Itâs a hit or miss situation. It will download the subtitle for some shows but still not others, getting the failed download error on some.
I am having the same problem. It worked earlier today but now nothing.
Is your working yet? I spoke too soon, I guess, because I , once again, can not download any subtitles. And the version to install Plex Media Server now is a lower version and is dated July 24, 2023 v1.32.5.7349-8f4248874
I just got it to work for the movie I needed. Maybe it is intermittent?
Oh, yes, yesterday it started working intermittently but today itâs back to not downloading subtitles at all. And I donât understand why my post are just being ignored. They could at least tell me they are working on it or not and whether a fix is coming or not. I am very frustrated with Plex right now because I pay annually for it and so I would like to know.
That is the one problem with Plex when something goes wrong who knows HOW long it takes to be fixed. i really with we could open a trouble ticket. I only know a few Plex users it is not as if I can get a bunch of people to vote for my topic to gain interest
New version 1.32.5.7516-8f4248874 still can not download subtitles. Just to see what would happen, I changed the opensubtitles password to something that isnât correct, the search still comes up and I get the error message, change the password to the correct one and I still get failed to download subtitle. So something is still wrong somewhere. I switched to Kodi for Windows, put my correct info in the plugin, works just fine, downloads subtitles just fine.
@krash1220 At the time of this writing, looks like subtitle search is back and up & running. Just upgraded the server to 1.32.5.7516
Some day in the future we wonât need SRT files and the likes. Our hardware will simply use machine learning to perform subtitling much like YouTube does except it will be done on the fly in real time. In fact, Plex could in theory utilize OpenAIâs Whisper neural net to accomplish this.

@All: Love wasting my time reading 21 posts in a row that simply say âme tooâ. Thatâs what the heart/like button is for on the OP (original post). In fact, to the Plex staff â just change that button to a Me Too button instead of a heart. ![]()

Well, Iâm glad itâs working for someone. I downloaded the new version yesterday and it didnât work. I completely removed Plex Media Server again today, complete clean install. I even moved my video files to another drive. I put my opensub information in, added my shows and this is what I get.
And the weirdest, most frustrating part is, if I uncheck opensubtitles and leave it blank, I still get the search option and still get the Failed to download error. I even tried a different browser because I thought maybe it was Chrome but even with firefox I get the same results. No matter what I uncheck it gives me the same results.
WARNING: Opensubtitles.org seems to have been compromised. There are invisible JavaScript redirects on their page. I advise everyone stay away until they can fix their servers.
Frustrating indeed @krash1220. There was an issue for the past few days with the PMS Movie/TV Agent not being able to connect to the proper destination to perform media matching and metadata syncing. There might have been a rollback, but that was resolved about 30 minutes ago. Iâm not sure, but this may be related.
Keep in mind, if you are a free user of OpenSubtitles, there are daily API limits.
I ran some tests and am now able to search for subtitles again. Previously, there was just a blank box. Fortunately, both you and I can now search for subtitles and they appear just as they do in your screenshots. I also tried downloading from OpenSubtitles and was able to download the SRT file.

Lastly, this thread might provide some insights: https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-media-server/30447/598
The server is on version 1.32.5.7516. I noticed an update while I was troubleshooting. I rebooted the server to initiate the download, but didnât observe any updates or rollbacks in the Docker container logs during the boot process. After the reboot, both the metadata agent and subtitle downloads are functioning properly.
If youâve restored your server from a backup, consider optimizing the database:
PMS Dashboard > Manage > Troubleshooting > Optimize Database
Zorg_Jean-Baptiste_Emanuel thank you so much for responding. Speaking of Docker I actually even tried a docker image last night, with the same results. But today, itâs now working for the most part. I was beginning to think I was going crazy, lol. Itâs still a little wonky, certain shows say unable to load subtitles but others actually download. So I can work with that. Thank you for your help. ![]()
