Failed to Find Consumer error; live TV stops a few minutes after initiating playback (seems to be android tv client related)

@daioio Is Plex still working on this Live TV issue? If the previous ticket got closed can you open a new one?

Unless I’m looking in the wrong place or missing something, your suggestion doesn’t seem to apply to the web player? I don’t see the options you describe.

Another data point that may be useful- the glitch seems like it might be coinciding with some mpeg-ts decode errors, and rather than picking up and moving on after a few errors in the stream, it just crashes everything. I noticed this tonight while watching- that it glitched right after some error artifacts.

One more potentially useful piece of information: using the Hauppauge WinTV application, I reconfigured the tuner to use the Microsoft DVD Decoder codecs instead of the MainConcept ones, and after doing that, I can watch live TV without interruption again.

I’m not quite sure WHY this mattered, unless the WinTV background service is using these decoders for something before the stream is consumed by other applications. I also don’t know whether these other cards folks are using have similar configurability. Moreover, I couldn’t say why WinTV was able to decode consistently with either codec configured, but Plex has a problem with the MainConcept codecs.

But maybe this helps put two and two together for someone, as it also seems to point to some problem with stream decoding / transcoding.

The temporary fix was to switch to the ā€œold playerā€ on the nvidia sheild and playback was fine for LIVE TV. But now, even though I switch to the ā€œold playerā€ it is still the ā€œnew playerā€ being used. My live tv stream cuts out after ~3 minutes. Anyone else having this issue?

So I switched the FireTV stick app to use the old player and TV works without stopping. Such a relief. Quality is visibly worse than the new player, which surprised me. But at least it works…

Yes. The new player has been doing that since the beginning. The solution right now is to switch to the old player. But now, Plex is forcing the new player… So we are doomed to have a buggy live tv experience.

I really hope it gets fixed soon, because i paid for a Plex pass explicitly for Live TV. If it ain’t working, i’m gonna have to switch to Emby. I would rather not though, because Plex is much more ā€œprettyā€ !

@Plex any news on tha bug ? I have attached my NVidia Shield log.txt (1.0 MB) log if it can help out.

This issue still exists.

Attached android and server logs

Tried to capture the transcode files, but Plex wipes out the directories upon failure when the session crashes. Will try to see if I can freeze them in time before it dies

@DaveBinM has this been raised with the developers at all? This thread seems to largely be people giving logs with no official Plex response…

I gave up on this thread and started a new one… Plex hasn’t responded to this one in over a month. (Sept 22)

@nakat0mi
Also, you may want to turn on ā€œEnable Plex Media Server debug loggingā€ for plex media server before capturing the logs. You will get a lot more data that can help them find the issue. The setting is under Settings/General

Can you link the other thread?
As far as logs, the issue seems fairly widespread so hopefully they shouldn’t have any problem replicating…

The bigger problem is they seem to have stopped reading and/or replying. If they never acknowledge the problem, we’ll never get anywhere.

I can add that I’m seeing pretty much the exact same issue with the following players:

-Plex For Windows
-Plex (Windows Client)
-Plex Web (Firefox on Windows)

In all instances, it’s only with Live TV, and it’s the error 1876 - failed to find consumer (GUID), followed by an inability for the transcoder to access the folder it was working with - e.g. the transcoder crashes.

Oddly, my Android phone and Roku platforms don’t seem to have this issue. So far, only Windows players of all flavors for me.

Yeah. Had to switch to emby for live tv. So much more solid.

@vishal207 can you run both Emby and Plex on the same server? If so I may have to give it a try.

Yes you can. It’s too bad Emby does not have a trial though. You have to pay 5$ to try it for 1 month.

I bought a Fire Stick, which for $17 ā€œseemedā€ like good deal. And boy do they advertize. I also have a couple of Roku’s and a Xiaomi Mi Box which is googledroid TV as well. The Rokus work, although 'cause I’m hard of hearing the subtitles are hit or miss. Subtitles are solid on Android, as long as you don’t intend on watching for more than 4-5 minutes. I downloaded the latest and greatest Plex Server, which actually made somekind of difference. Now, instead of the screen just freezing, the app kick all the way back out to the program selection. And, of course you can start over and it plays just fine, for about 4 or 5 minutes. So is it server or player? I don’t know. Roku’s play, Android’s don’t.2020-11-08T05:00:00Z(File removed)
…btw, EMBY plays live tv w/o trying to record at the same time. A switch for preference would be cool. Turning off the record while watching TV I mean. tks!

I’m pretty sure it’s the client apps since they start failing one by one as they get updated. We watched a couple hours tv last time on the iPad, because now my windows app started having the issue as well after the last update…
I’m down to one device that can play. My subscription is up for renewal in one month…

Yeah, I have to agree, we haven’t heard anything from a plex employee. I would hope somebody’s watching. Hello?
I’m tempted to try creating another account, closing this one; I’m on the $5 a month plan. I say that because it’s almost like I’m on a trial subscription. I mean it works, then it just stops. Very consistent.; I was optimistic when the ā€œnewā€ server software came down. And it had an effect, behavior went from freezing to just kicking out the the selection screen. didn’t fix the problem. But the Roku’s just hum right along. Is there anything else we can do to get attention here? I see similar issues that went over 90 days, closed. And if it’s not affecting everybody, why us?
