I’m so frustrated I could scream. This was only thread I could find that seemed to match my issue.
Recently added a remote PMS (Celeron processor, OTA hauppauge tuner - Ubuntu 20.04 - 1.20.4.3517), with the primary reason to watch live TV. Have had a long running PMS local (Ryzen 7, HDHomerun Prime - Ubuntu 20.04 - 1.20.4.3517) has primary purpose of recording via DVR. Both remote and local worked great to a Windows 10 Client (1.17.0.137), DVR playback works fine to shield Tv. Live tv playback would stop after a few minutes with android on a Pixel2 and shield Tv (8.8.xxxxx).
Upgraded android players the other day to 8.9.0.21537, did not fix problem. So I upgraded local server to the 1.20.5.3562, playback ran much longer than before (and the android devices showed up in the dashboard), so I tried 1.20.5.3562 on remote server, continuously vacillates between playing and buffering - completely unwatchable. Does not seem to have any dependence on direct play/transcode, processor running less than 50%.
I wouldn’t hold your breath for a fix. Plex staff seemed to have wholly abandoned their android client. There’s been no responses for months, for all sorts of bugs.
Turns out I was transcoding and not direct play. Looks like 1.20.5.3562 may have an issue with hardware transcode (which was not causing buffering in 1.20.4.3517). Turning off hw transcode (gemini lake 4105) seems to produce a direct play that runs for a long time. Transcodes still drop out after a short time playing back.
This is the same issue that I had. Since I am in DirectPlay, Live TV has not failed once since a couple of weeks! (Server and Client are on latest version) - Rock solid!
I think they are talking about disabling “Transcode interlaced live tv” under settings. That works for some channels but not for others. For about half of my channels it causes the video to LAG the audio by over a second, making it unwatchable. I started a thread but haven’t had any responses yet.
There is no “Transcode interlaced live tv” setting on the app for NVidia Shield. I remember reading somewhere that NVidia Shield always uses Direct Play. That may be why the setting is hidden.
Any updates on this issue? Fire Stick 4k is still not working with Live TV. The only thing that works is downgrading the fire stick plex app to older version 8.5.2.20133 per a previous post above.
Issue persists on Android TV. Playback does not show up in dashboard though does show up in bandwidth usage. Constantly stops after ~4 minutes. I posted logs here:
Would be nice if Plex could begin being responsive to this issue again. The last response in this thread was from September 22nd, three months ago now.
I am running on a Shield with my server hosted locally on my network as well as a HDhomerun Prime. The only way I can get TV to continue to play is to force a transcode of the video stream.
How I get there is by starting a tv stream and then adjusting the video quality down to the lowest available setting. Once it’s registered in the server dashboard I can then change it back to Convert Automatically. It then continues to play without a problem.
I have tried playing the same streams on Emby and Jellyfin and both servers transcode the streams and they play no problem on the Shield. I know we shouldn’t have to transcode but this is what I have to do to get it to work. I’ve tried on AppleTV and Roku devices and they all show as transcoding in the Dashboard with all bitrate settings set to max on local and remote.
