Just want to chime in here that the new player crashes on live tv and the old player crashes when playing movies. So simply turning off the new player in settings usn’t the answer.
How has this been going on for nearly 2 months now. I still cannot watch live TV, which is the only reason I have plex pass. Hopefully Plex can sort out refunds for this debilitating issue…
Kind of service Id expect from an open source software community, not one I pay for.
Is your issue occurring on an Nvidia Shield as well?
Can you try the suggestion I posted here?
2020-10-22T04:00:00Z Not much to add this Thursday morning. Tried plex for android app on bluestacks, just for fun, and sure enough… you think it works ok? Nooooo. I started live tv on my xiaomi mi box and on my pc running bluestacks android emulator. Both freeze after 5 minutes. They play just great, but only for so long. (Just asking here, Is there a trial version for non Plex Pass subscribers?) It’s so predictable that I just wonder if something wasn’t getting the OK. Just a thought. Also, If anyone from Plex sees this, I’m open to try beta versions!2020-10-22T04:00:00Z
Looking at the post above for an Nvidia Sheild and 11-13 minutes, I’m wondering why the time difference as I only get 5 minutes? Is there a cache that’s getting filled?2020-10-22T04:00:00Z
Thursday afternoon, my son is watching a recording on Plex, which works ok btw, and gets a prompt to update the plex app? Well sure!! and we wait. Tried Live TV and it freezes. I unloaded Plex, booted, reinstalled Plex. Almost exactly 5 minutes into live TV, it freezes. Still

And I’ll suggest, in my humble opinion, If live TV was just that, a pass-thru without recording on the server end, it would be easier to maintain. (And maintaining it must not be too easy}
I use “live tv” for the roku on the deck where I don’t have an antenna wire. Wireless is just so easy, and convienient. So how about it, Live TV that works? Or Live TV that records and harder to maintain? I don’t think I’ve ever had a reason for Plex to record Live TV. My 2 cents.2020-10-22T04:00:00Z
I have similar problem, please look in my post for complete log and information. This can also help dev to understand and fix the problem.
It seems that the “old” player is playing LiveTV without any crashes on FireTV, but crashes when trying to start a movie.
The “new” player can play movies, but crashes for LiveTV after 10-15 minutes.
Is there a possibility to enable the old player automatically when using LiveTV??
It seems that in my case, turning off the “Transcode interlaced Live TV” option in the player (using the “new” player) fixed my problem, I have been able to listen to a 1080i channel for 4 hours straight!
I tried the transcode interlaced tv setting on the firestick 4k. Didn’t make a difference for me, still crashed.
I also have the same issue. The old player works perfect for live tv but crashes on movies. The new player plays movies fine but crashes when playing live tv.
When playing Live TV, if you go into the “…” option on the right, and select “Information”, is it Direct or Transcode?
I noticed that channels that were Direct didn’t seems to crash… And my Live TV hasn’t crash since I switched the option (The channel was Transcode before my change and kept crashing every 10/15 minutes and then Direct with the switch, no more crash)
I’m having the same problem as the above; however, I am using the unofficial Hauppauge HVR USB2 ATSC Tuner/Demod tuner. This suggests to me that it might not be a device-dependent problem. The symptoms are the same for me as for others- playback is fine for a few minutes, then I get either a transcoder crash or the failed to find consumer errors followed by a lot of errors expecting media and finding HTML.
My playback settings do not give me the option of watching Direct and not transcoding, but I’m watching through the web, not using the Plex app.
I thiink you’re on to something with the Transcoder. Not sure why it “just started” but I’ve watrched a morning show more than I wanted to on “Live TV” (antenna/hdhr) After reading your post I looked at my player settings. Instead of “play original quality” I changed to “automatic”, and just for grins on the server I checked “convert video while recording” No freezes!!
So, it’s transcoder related anyway. But why did my Roku play live TV just fine before and the Android box kept freezing? Could be different settings on play quality? Thanks!. It’s been weeks since I could watch Live TV on Plex.2020-10-27T04:00:00Z

Happy to know that it helped someone!!
Well, It was fun while it lasted. While my son watches the news, guess what. So I verified the setting on the player, quality, “automatically convert”. And still. And of course it also does it with “play original quality”
So why did it work this morning? Ugh. I could be plex is possessed. I’ve thought so a number of times.
Anyway, any thoughts suggestions, I’m all ears! 2020-10-27T04:00:00Z
I don’t have any ideas. I’ve given up on Plex live TV and I am using the HD home run app until they fix it. The HD homerun app works perfectly other than the awful user interface, lack of guide, and no DVR.
Yeah, I bought a Roku last weekend!. And although it’s plain, it usually works ok. The think I like about live tv is the guide. I use subtitles so I have to transcode. I think we’ve had this issue going on a month now. The Roku does not have screen sizing, letterbox, normal, stretch etc. Comet is notorious for playing stuff below 4.3. Circles should be round, not oval. 2020-10-27T04:00:00Z
We just hook up the laptop to the tv and use the windows app to watch live tv. I keep watching this thread hoping to read one day that it works again and we can use the fireTV stick again.
This will work as long as the iOS and windows apps continue to work.
Did you try my solution? It solved everything for my FireTV 4k (with latest version of the server and player)
Did not crash once since then!
Mine were direct when I last checked. I played with flipping it a few weeks back but didn’t help. Haven’t tried recently.
