Feedback on 8.6 and a few questions (nvidia shield)

a few items as I’m using 8.6:
1- I was expecting that clicking on a cast member would then show me all movies/series with that person - is it in your plans?
2- When showing information about the sound, can you please go further than just DTS (I’d like to know if it is DTS-HD or one of the other subtypes)
3- Can you show the full path of the file when selecting more info
4- I like this new look but I also liked the older look and was getting used to it. Any particular reason for the change?

not related to 8.6, but I’ll ask: any plans to offer a listview of a folder?

to bring it inline with all of our other apps.

I can’t make any promises about the first 3 but I will bring them up to folks

There’s a feature suggestion for this…

I think he is referring to the fact that the actors which were recently added to Android TV are not clickable at all. I believe they will be but i’m trying not to make false promises

@BigWheel

In reference to FCNR’s item #2 above, it would be more advantageous to us users that the audio format show is exactly what it should be. For example, if its Dolby Atmos instead of just showing Dolby TrueHD. I know this has been asked for in the feature requests for quite awhile.

they USED to be clickable, so I see this as a regression, not a feature request.

actors across all libraries, and all library types (ie both movies and shows), now that I concede is a feature request, the linked feature request covers that.

they didn’t used to exist on Android TV

hrmm, well yea you might be right there, but they are clickable on most/all other plex clients, so adding them in to android tv is only partial parity, and thus still a regression.

Thanks for the feedabck!

Yes

I’ll pass this feedback along.

We are making all the platforms share a unified appearance, and the old UI was technically restrictive.

There is some design work going on in this space but I’m not sure of the details or when it might come to the apps.

He is 100% right. It’s not a regression as the cast details was never available before.

There is a minor technical hurdle to adding this capability, however we plan on tackling it in the short term. Thanks for your patience

I too would like the return of DTS and DTS-HD distinction. Though a DTS:X & Atmos label would be great, I’d settle for the former.
Also, HDR information seems to have been removed.
And on a side note, nothing to do with the new interface, but still worth some attention is the fact that plex still won’t play Fast &Furious 6 or 7 in DTS:X as some other players will.

#2 caught my eye. I want it to say DTS-MA 5.1 or something to distinguish it from DTS 5.1. I noticed it says TrueHD 5.1. I am OK with AC3 instead of Dolby, etc.

I like that the cast members, etc. show up now.

I want to point out I find this forum confusing, so I am just going to make a few comments (because I don’t really know where to put these comments). I have always preferred the OLD player interface because I could hit a button on the remote and it told me what was and wasn’t DirectPlay. (There were some other problems with NEW, but they’ve been corrected.) In the NEW interface, I think the information I am looking for is under “…” and Player Info. It used to just appear on the top left when I hit that certain button. I would like that back.

Also, I drilled down to a display that showed two audio tracks, but the details were wrong. They both showed up as 1.5 Mbps or something like that, but one was DTS and the other was DTS-MA. The MediaInfo utility shows two audio streams, one size 1.5 Mbps and the other considerably more (the DTS-MA audio). I respectfully suggest this is a bug. My imagination suggests it might be related to calling DTS-MA only DTS, but I’ve not researched it any further.

I depend very heavily on Plex, and I am now locked into the NEW interface. I can no longer use the OLD interface because it no longer works. This is one way to get me on the NEW interface. As long as the NEW interface shows chapters when you “down arrow,” I can live with it (although I get weird flashes of light when making certain video switches: I would prefer black instead of weird colors). But I would really like the DirectPlay status displayed like in the OLD interface. I seem to recall it shows DirectPlay if both audio and video are DirectPlay; otherwise it shows something for each. Leave the “…” feature there – fine. But restore the top left display in the NEW interface. There is a switch in SETTINGS that seems to turn it on and off.

Finally, and FWIW, the last few app updates (NVIDIA SHIELD) have all said they were trying to fix the HOME SCREEN weirdness. That problem is not fixed. Sometimes it’s still blank. And when I go to SETTINGS and come back, the interface gets confused. If my setup is the only one in the world doing this I would be surprised.

Thanks for reading this far. I hope it does some good.

There were many complaints when that went away from the Android TV client.

Plex has said it will return, in a new form, at some point in the future. Plex never provides product plans, so date is unknown.

I also installed the new plex on my shield tv. I noticed also the watchlists have a new look. The Cover of a movie is not shown anymore, also the 3 dot menu is gone and long press brings a menu but there is no option to delete an item from the list anymore. Please make this possible again.

not really sure what you mean by “cover” but if a poster is not showing either it just never had one or just taking too long to load for some reason. You can see the poster in my image below

The old version just had a button that said More" the new version has the dots. they do the same thing.

if deletion is enabled on your server’s library settings it will be in the list.

I spent more time with 8.6
for my comment on giving more info on the audio format, can you please also look into listing all formats (so a movie with AC3 and DTS will show both).
The side scrolling on music looks nice (after selecting an artist) but it takes too many clicks if you want an album all the way at the end. I would help to have a choice and maybe also rearrange the display (name or year or most played). When playing a track and going back to the album selection, it seems to go back to the first album instead of the one currently being played (which I believe was the behavior pre 8.6 if I’m not mistaken)

Thank you for tbeing responsive to the comments.

Hey, thank you for the quick answer.
In the library everything is fine and just as you described it.
I was talking about the new layout of watchlist or playlist for movies.
There is no poster of the movies for each movie in the list and no options to delete a movie.

Old

New

Also there is no more the option to change the order in the list.

Didn’t realize you were talking about watch/Playlists. Are you trying to delete the file or just remove it from the watch/playlist?

We are unable to remove playlist or movies/items in a playlist on the new version (Shield latest update) above pictures show the exact problem.
Also posters are missing and reorder options are missing.

In short, the playlist option is broken atm.
No way to edit, no posters and no way to remove a playlist (have to log into my account on another device for that now).
