First time ever happening...Plex wont scan a movie file: The Night (2020).mkv

Server Version#: Version 1.20.1.3252. (I refuse to upgrade, because any version after this refuses to play my files in full, when beaming to my apple tv client. see previous threads)

Not sure what to make of this, I have been using plex for years and never had this issue. I have a file named The Night (2020).mkv.

I currently have 624 files in my library, when I added this file and scanned my library. My library count jumps to 625 during the scan (which is good), but then back to 624 when the scan finishes. It refuses to recognize this file. It plays fine on VLC, not sure what is going on.

I see what is happening. I have another movie called “The Vast of Night 2020.mkv”

Plex is too dumb to know these are two different movies and its making “The Night 2020.mkv” another copy of “The Vast of Night 2020.mkv”

Have you tried fix match? Found in the Titles Poster right bottom a Vertical Ellipsis

Yeah, I have used fix match before. But this was a weird case, because after the scan, my file count didnt increase by one. So I couldnt even find the file to “fix match”. Once I realized its counting the file as another copy of a different movie in my collection, I was able to get to the file and “fix match”.

Have tried using the Movie IMDB ID Tag

Imdb shows as;
The Vast of Night (2019) and The Night (2020).
Putting the year in ( ) helps too.

That was my typo when typing it here. I did have the year in ( ) in my file name. Didnt make a difference.

It may be the movie year. Like I said, Imdb shows as;
The Vast of Night (2019).

If you are using the new library agent you add the IMDB ID to the end like

The Night (2020) [imdb-tt8102806]

if thing are merged like that you should have a “Split Apart” option in the menu then you can fix match the incorrect one. (that might be what you did just putting it here for others that might see this)

yeah it didnt make a difference changing the year.

I didnt know about the new library agent. I just deleted the “The Vast of Night” as I dont need it anymore. I rescanned “The Night”, it appeared again as “The Vast of Night” and then I just fixed match.

Thanks for the feedback. I wish a plex employee could have chimed in on my other issue, which still is a problem: "Your connection to the server has been lost" error with 4.5 mins left no matter what I watch
