The last four movies I’ve posted on Plex won’t match when I select fix match. Everything has been working perfectly fine for the 1300+ movies I have on Plex before these past movies. I changed nothing in Plex settings. I’ll post photos to show my settings & the results.
I’ve done the “Plex Dance”, (moving the movie out of my Plex folder, scanning, emptying the trash, cleaning bundles, putting it back and rescanning). That didn’t solve it. Any ideas why and how to fix this?
Thanks. It would be incredibly inconvenient to create nested folders for each individual movies and since Plex is displaying the correct tagging information from the file itself (I use both MyMeta & MetaX) it wouldn’t be worth the effort. The main reasons I use the “Fix Match” is so the cast shows pictures when available & so it pulls the IMDB ratings. If I had to change my file structure I’d just forgo the matching. The reason I’m replying… Did you see anything obvious from the photos that I posted that could be causing this new issue?
I added another new movie today. Before I added the movie I performed the “Plex Dance”… I emptied the trash and I cleaned the bundles (under troubleshooting). I then tried all the things you said:
I created a folder for the individual movie E: > Movies > Get Gone (2019) > Get Gone (2019).mp4
I did not add metadata to the file before scanning the library.
Once the movie was added to the library I looked up the release date from .themoviedb.org
I manually wrote the file date to the movie in Plex (July 31, 2019).
I waited until Plex was finished with the movie (adding it and looking for metadata).
I then selected “Match” and let “Match Automatically” complete it’s cycle. It didn’t find the movie.
I then selected “Match”, used the drop down “Search Option”. It brought up the Movie name & year… but I had to change from Plex Movies to The Movie Database, and then searched.
I used a totally different video file and performed the FixMatch procedure on it.
Very important: if your default agent for this library is ‘Personal Video’, you must select a ‘language’ under ‘Search Options’ or you won’t get any results.
Thanks for replying so quickly. I’m sure this isn’t an issue with the software (which you’ve demonstrated because it works for you), but I’m at a loss for why it’s not working for me now. It has been working perfectly until a week or so ago & I’ve no idea what changed to make it stop. I checked, and when I click on Match and then click on Search Options, Plex Media is the box that pops up. I then have to change it to search from TMDabatbase. Both of those come up with English as the language. Oddly, when I change it to Personal Media, the language comes up as none… and there’s not any other option on the drop down. I looked through settings > Agents and found Personal Media, but there wasn’t a gear box (settings) to change the language. Sorry to be so dense, but I’ve been using Plex for less than a year & I’m still learning. Is there another place to set the language for Personal Media?
That’s where I thought… but there’s no option to choose when I change the Agent to Personal Media. Under language it says none and when I click the arrow to the right there’s nothing there except none. English isn’t an option as it is when I select Plex Media or The Movie Database. Do you think that’s related to my problem?
You won’t get any search results if you set it to ‘Personal Media’. That is expected. ‘Personal Media’ means: there are no metadata fetched from the outside, so a language selection is pointless. You don’t need to pick a language from non-existing metadata.
The point was that if you have set ‘Personal Media’ as the default metadata agent in the preferences of that library, the ‘Language’ drop down will always default to ‘None’. So if you want to manually match a movies, you will always have to open the search options, select a metadata source other than ‘Personal…’ and then pick a language as well.
Ah… I understand. I’ve selected English every time I’ve tried to match, so I don’t think that’s the issue. I was reading in the forum to see if anyone else had this problem in the past and found this closed thread: Matching with the Movie Database agent doesn't work?.
The person having the problem seemed to have solved it themselves, but I don’t know what he means when he says that he “spun up a new container with a fresh config and tried again”. Any idea what he meant?
He simply used a fresh install of Operating System and Plex server.
But I don’t think that this “nuclear option” is the right thing to do.
Start by using the hosted web app app.plex.tv instead of either the local web app or the Plex for Windows/Mac app or PlexMediaPlayer.
Disable any web browser add-ins which could potentially interfere
EUREKA! You solved my problem, but not with the advice in this thread! I kept reading the thread (even after the guy said he’d solved his issue) and you wrote this (below). I did it and it fixed the problem!
