I’m having an issue when I manually update metadata mismatches with the new Plex Movie agent. I’ve had 3 separate films now for which I could not find the correct match under either The Movie Database or the Plex Movie (Legacy) agents but COULD find the correct match under the new Plex Movie agent. However when clicking on the correct match, Plex reverts to the original match and it’s corresponding metadata. It doesn’t actually update to the new match. Tried on Safari / Firefox / Chrome all with the same behavior. Tried unmatching and matching from scratch, no idea why it won’t match properly. I haven’t had this problem when fixing metadata errors where the correct file can be found through The Movie Database or Plex Movie (Legacy) agents. Anyone else seeing this?

Interesting, I hadn’t seen the new naming convention to work with the new Plex Movies agent. Thank you for the tip.
But regardless of naming, it seems like the Fix Match functionality is broken in the new Plex Movies agent, at least it is for me, anyone else have issues? If it’s a bug it’d be nice to get it fixed.
I have found using the Plex Movie agent is very accurate, till a release date is different. Then it’s a matter of determining the correct year for Titles with same name or similar. The highest ranked in a match is not necessarily the correct match.
But as many have said before Naming and organizing your files correctly is 99% of the battle for correct matching.
Cross matching with different agents may result in a fix but i would not recommend using that method.
Maybe I wasn’t clear about my experience? For example one of my films has a fairly generic title and multiple entries for the same release year. I can see the correct match in the new Plex Movie agent since I can see the poster and the description but when I click on the correct match it doesn’t update the metatdata to reflect that match, it simply reverts back to whatever match it made initially. I have my files named according to the naming conventions Title (yyyy).mkv etc. While I was not aware of the new ability to add {tmd-id} to the name, I shouldn’t have to do that for every file, I should just be able to click the correct match and have the metadata update properly. That’s what it’s supposed to do. It’s not doing that for me.
Why would it matter if you use different agents? The whole point of having different agents is that neither TMD nor the Plex Movie agent has listings for every title. You need both to be able to cover your bases? Or at least I do, maybe others don’t run into that issue. But I have plenty of titles that only show up in one agent or the other.
Firstly, what agent is your library set up to use?
Trying to use the Plex Movie agent in Fix Match on a library that isn’t configured to use the Plex Movie agent will not work. You can however use the legacy Plex and TMDB agents to Fix Match if your library is using the new Plex Movie agent. There is some work that still needs to happen in the web client to prevent you trying to match to the new agent when you’re using legacy agents.
You rarely should ever need to use Fix Match though if the files are named correctly, if you find that you need to do this often then there is likely some other underlying problem (or you have some really obscure titles in your library).
Maybe I don’t understand the point of having different agents then? It seems I’m fairly rare in this case, but I run into titles frequently that only show up in one agent or the other. It’s not like I can check ahead of time and split out libraries based on which agent has which titles, not that I would want to anyway.
Why would it cause issues to match a title to another agent? If it does cause issues why even offer it as an option? To be clear, I haven’t had any issues matching to any agent regardless of what the library is set to until now and the only issue now seems to be that selecting a match in the new Plex Movie agent doesn’t actually work.
It’s set to use TMD, and it seems to be fine using Fix Match on the Plex Movie legacy agent. I guess if it’s not built to match to the new agent then I just need to redo my library to use the new Plex Movie agent and use Fix Match with the legacy agents.
All my files are in Title (yyyy).mkv etc format, but yeah I have some obscure stuff that just doesn’t show up in all the agents.
Seems like switching the library to the new Plex Movie agent and fixing matches from there is the way to go. Thanks for your time and help
