Direct playing if the media is an mp4 works right now.
I am putting in a fix for Direct Streaming from an MKV today and it will be in a future update

I seem to have hit this bug today after updating the plex app on my LG Projector. Happy to provide any info I can to assist resolve this.

I am sorry to point out that I had the issue yesterday, it works only on my mac pro M2, ipad, iphone and ATV failed, I tried direct play, can not use transcode as we all know as well.
Can you please have a look why this issue came back here? It works with emby direct play no issue, so it is not a file issueâŠ
Most people use dovi profile 5 so it would be incredibly bad if it could not work with plex
Whatâs the timeline for this to work exactly and will it work for all apple players?
FYI it still doesnât work with mp4 filesâŠ
What app version are you using?
This was fixed with one of the most recent betas.
I am using all the latest public versions on iphone, ipad and ATV, no beta here, if you explain how to get the beta, I can surely try it to check if it does fix the issueâŠ

But interestingly, with this and the last public release that came out yesterday, I now get â A server with the specified hostname could not be found.â on the same files that had the DV issue, which are the same files that also played fine. This is not an issue on the server side that I can see.

I have tested on two devices. The app on my lg c4 and my xbox series x. Get the same error on both unless I force direct play which then gives me the purple green tint. Same thing happens on both in the plex app.
It also happens in Emby, strange thing is that it doesnât happen in JellyFinâŠ
Both paid apps have the issue but the free one doesnât? What is happening hereâŠ

On Apple TV with version 8.45, I get this morning the same error message with DV profile 5.
I then tried another video with profile 7, and everything was fine.
So, the problem isnât entirely resolved for me with profile 5.
Hello, the Windows version client seems unable to decode Dolby Profile 5, can this be resolved? Thank you.

Just wanted to add my one centâŠ
All my LG OLED and Dolby Vision projector used to play correctly as well. Now forcing direct play the color is messed up.
UPDATE: Just for kicks, I sideloaded Kodi to my LG G4 set it all up and it plays all my Dolby Vision files perfectly. I did NOT use the PlexConnect add-on, just straight mapped my files from the NAS. All files MKV.

For everyone still seeing this could you provide:
- Device type, model, OS version
- If the media is an MP4 or MKV
- If the file is being transcoded. (If you have your quality set to some value other than Maximum/Original or have Direct Play disabled)
Seeing this issue today with an mkv. Same issue with transcoding and direct play. iPhone 15 pro max on iOS18.4.1.
Chrome web player, LG TV app, Xbox app - current version
MKV
I have â Disable video stream transcodingâ unchecked
it will play on the LGTV but the colors are wrong.
the xbox app freezes
chrome web app gives the error: File is unplayable. DoVi (Profile 5) color space is not supported.
Also seeing it today, Web player Firefox (latest) windows 10 MKV Not aware if itâs being transcoded as it wont allow me to see and my default is orignal. Same issue with my Samsun TV not sure the version OS or app version sorry
Getting different versions of this error with an MKV file
iOS app is playing fine
Samsung TV wonât play at all
Chromecast shows with funky colours (green and purple etc)
Windows 11 app wonât play at all
All apps are up to date
