Server Version#: 1.16.4.1469
Player Version#: 3.104.2
My friend can access my server from his home (remote location), but it says “iMac is unavailable,” and there is a little exclamation point icon next to it.
I can access it with my Samsung Smart TV running the PLEX app and a Samsung (dumb?) TV running the TiVo PLEX app.
What app/platform is your friend using to access your Plex server?
Have you been able to verify that your server is accessible from outside your home network?
He is on a Mac at PLEX. He can “see” my server, but he gets error indicators. (see attached).
When he clicks on the iMac he gets a message that says “iMac is unavailable.”
Also, now it seems that Remote Access will not stay activated. I am almost certain that it was green when we were trying to connect him—not so sure of anything now (see attached):
It also may be worth noting that these problems started when I got a new computer with Mac OS X Catalina.
Have you verified your Plex server is actually available outside your home network. If you moved to a new machine (or restored the server from time machine) you might need to re-establish those remote access settings (both on your Plex server and router)
LOL! I fixed it. Had to set up manual port forwarding on my Arris router. Not sure why I didn’t have to do this before. Nevertheless, I found this video on how to do it (if you have an Arris router). If you don’t have an Arris router, just search DuckDuckGo (never use Google—they track you) for “port forwarding on [my router brand].” Once you set this up and restart your router, restart PMS, your remote access will be on.
Thanks for your guys’ help!
