Further discussion about setting up Plex properly

I originally posted a thread with feedback on setting up Plex properly.

https://forums.plex.tv/t/need-help-setting-up-plex-properly/308165/4

Unfortunately it closed before I could reply back to some of the more recent feedback I received on that thread. Sorry to bring the topic back up and continue it here but…

@trumpy81 I wanted to reply to your NAS feedback. A lot of the technical stuff is still over my head but I’m looking into the products you suggested. I can’t seem to find the drives that you’d put in the Synology DS1817+ on the Synology page.

It looks like these products are for sure up my alley but it looks like it would cost a pretty penny. I would have a hard time justifying investing in some more My Cloud Home’s for the time being until I could afford such a setup as you have suggested… but it looks like I may have to do that in order to streamline my setup. Trade the regular My Cloud’s in for the My Cloud Home’s.

Thanks again for this continued dialogue. Do you recommend a place where you can get these items? I looked some things up with a simple google search and am getting some prices of well over a thousand dollars and that doesn’t even include the drives themselves. I understand that given the amount of space I am looking for there is going to be price associated with that. And with that… would I need expert setup? As I’ve eluded to, I’m not on the upper level of understand on this sort of IT type stuff. I’ve been able to hook up what I have with some sort of ease but I still ran into some confusion here and there and not even sure if I am managing things correctly in the first place.

Would this really be more highly recommended than just stocking up with those My Cloud Home drives. Those seems fairly plug-and-play and I’ve been able to get them to work with Plex the best. I know that sort of takes me back to my original dialogue in my original post… but I’m thinking I won’t be able to setup or manage what you are suggesting properly.

Sorry for sounding so ignorant about this topic. Obviously everyone wants to find the most affordable cost to manage what they need. I just want to make sure that I not only have some feedback on the best options for what I am looking to do, but also make sure I understand what I am getting into.

To further that a little bit… I joined a Plex group on FB and mainly been lurking for the time being just to see what everyone is posting and get some understanding of what other people are talking about. See how they manage their use of Plex. Probably 98 out of 100 posts in the FB group are completely Greek to me. It leaves me wondering if I should even be using Plex in the first place. Maybe I’m not using it correctly? The things I am seeing people talk about are so far advanced that it leaves me a little confused. I would think use of the Plex service would be pretty simple…or it’s intended to be pretty simple in creating an interface for your media. I know people are going to really go all out in some of their use of the service so I can’t sour myself too much by what other people are talking about on that particular platform.

Thanks for this follow-up. Cheers!
