Game Controller Not Detected

I force stopped the app and still get the same message - it didn’t work

Me too.

After that failed test, I caught my Amazon FireTV v2 to load and install two system component updates , then I did a device restart. Now, Plex starts without Game Controller warning.

I did not have to but can you try what the other user tried above.

Yep - I have 3 systems. All are doing the same thing as described. Really annoying.

Same here. Also on reinstall the maximum h.264 level was on 1.0 (which setting is the right one for a 4k fire stick btw?)
Also: I noticed that the playback error is gone after deactivating the automatic frame rate change (which is not something I enjoyed doing but oh well)

should be level 4 according to this Redirect | Amazon Fire TV

I think the right setting is 5.2 for that device but 99% of H264 content I have seen is 4.1 so you don’t have to go far above that to be covered for virtually everything.

yeah…that page is wrong.

Edit: that may be for High, but the H264 setting in Plex assumes “Main” which I don’t think the product page covers.

ok fair enough.

They probably do not have any sort of QA dept.

Having the same issue on both my regular and 4k Fire sticks. Tried force stopping and clearing cache.

I had to roll the server back (OS X High Sierria) and the issue cleared

Not sure how the server version could effect the Fire TV app thinking it needs a game controller.

ME either, but that is what happened

Same Trouble on my firesticks. I went into settings ,applications,Plex and forced a stop next open no error ,on all 3 firesticks.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just reboot the Fire Stick (hold the select button and Play/Pause for five seconds)?

Same here

wouldn’t it be even easier if you just unplugged the power? or I know, what if you just had someone else go unplug it for you! that would probably be the easiest.

seriously though. the easiest way for me? adb shell script. course you have to set up adb initially, but it’s so easy even a caveman can do it.

#!/bin/bash
adb kill-server
sleep 1
adb connect “device ip”
sleep 5
adb reboot & exit

@BigWheel I booted up Plex on my 4k Stick today and no Game Controller pop-up. Good job on getting that fixed ASAP!

There are still two major issues with the most recent update:

  1. H264 Max Level is defaulting to 1.0. Unless manually changed it’s causing pretty much everything to transcode (For the 4k FIrestick it was defaulting to at least 5.1 in all previous releases)

  2. 4k HEVC is being transcoded down to 1080p regardless of any settings I adjust. Previously it could Direct Play without any issues on the 4k FIrestick

I’ll follow up with those issues in their appropriate threads but I have to admit I’m very disappointed this update made it past testing and onto our devices

Thanks. I do know about the other issues. There are already other forum topics about them. This is the one about the 4k media. 4k hevc media that was direct playing is now automatically transcoding to 1080p after update Both of them seem to be about improper detection of device capabilities.

This issue with the game controller was just some flag that the Amazon store folks needed to flip that was why it was so quick to resolve.
