"Game of Thrones" TV series no longer matching

Server Version#: Windows Version 1.21.1.3842
Player Version#: Web Interface

My copy of “Game of Thrones (2011)” TV series matched correctly when it was initially added to the server. Starting a couple of days ago (approximately 01/01/2021), there is no match (the poster and textual information has disappeared). When I manually try to match, there is a single response (“Game of Thrones: Cartoon Parody” (2011)). I do not understand how such a well known series cannot be matched correctly. Nothing on my end has changed. FYI There is no issue with the hundreds of other items on my server.

Your comments\suggestions are welcome.

Didn’t “Game of Thrones” first air in 2010?
You can get a match if you set the year to 2010 or leave it empty.

Alternatively you should be able to get a match by entering the ID of that movie in combination with the respective agent…

The TVdb indicates that Game of Thrones premiered in 2010, Wikipedia indicates 2011. Neither date currently works. Just so we’re clear, my file originally had a 2010 date and the lookup worked flawlessly for more than a year. The poster and textual content was previously filled correctly. For the last few days, I’ve looked at blanks for this singular item.

I changed the date today to match the Wikipedia article to see what might happen. Currently, I cannot lookup by date, by name or by using the ID as you suggested. The search graphic thingie just spins without end. (In other words it finds nothing and also never times out) It is as if the TVdb no longer has any record of Game of Thrones … which I know is not the case.

Update: I rebooted my server and repeated the previous steps. I continued to have issues looking up game of thrones by name or with either date. However, it was able to lookup when using the ID but it took a looong time. Even though it updated, I’d love to learn of an explanation if anyone has one. Why would this title no longer automatically be found in the TVdb by name (with either date or blank) when it did so previously? Thanks in advance.

I was having the same problem. Mine was being matched with “Game of Stones”. I clicked “Fix Match” and then in the title put in 121361 and clicked search. It then found it correctly. The date doesn’t seem to matter.

I have the same problem, i noticed after a scan game of thrones wasn’t matched and the anime Black clover was matched with a mini parody. and when i tried to match game of throne the agent only found a cartoon parody.
Hopefully using tvdb numbers work
Is it me or recently tvdb agent is less reliable than before?

Does seem a bit odd, I just tried a fix match on the show on a couple of my servers.

On one server all it brings up is:

Game of Thrones: Cartoon Parody

and on another server it brings up 2 results, both incorrect:

King of Thrones
Game of Thrones: Cartoon Parody

I tried removing the date in Search options (and trying both 2010 and 2011) and it still only finds the same results.

Looking at the TVDB it shows the record was last updated on May 28, 2020, so it does not look like the record has been recently changed at the TVDB

I know you can put in the tvdb id and it will match, but you would really expect Plex to be able to match something like this.

Looking at the xml for an existing matched episode it appears to have the correct ID:

com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://121361/8/1?lang=en

(Season 8 Episode 1 was the item I looked at the xml for)

Yes, I am experiencing the same issue as “thibo1138” and “blim5001”. Up until a few days ago, Plex previously matched “Game of Thrones” as expected. Now, it cannot match at all expect when using the ID. Since the record at TVdb hasn’t been changed recently, could this issue be related to a recent Plex server update? If so, is there a best way to communicate this to the software development team at Plex?

No, this seems to be something weird with the TVDB api. I tested a raw api query to their service and it returned a single bad result of “Game of Thrones: Cartoon Parody”.

I’ll open up a ticket with them and see if we can get this resolved.

fwiw emby does not seem to have the same issue, but I guess emby may be using a different tvdb api version than plex

It looks like the api issue has resolved itself over night, the correct results are coming from the TVDB api now but the old data may still be cached with Cloudflare for a bit so give it some time to expire.

I just ran into the very same issue a few minutes ago. First it incorrectly matched with Game of Stones. When I tried to Fix Match, the actual title did not appear in the search list. I had to search with the ID (121361) before Plex could correctly recognize the media.

3 Days later and fix match is still showing just the cartoon Parody, how long should we expect before it works?

+1 for suffering from this!

All: I just tried to do an automatch using the Move DB instead of the TV one and Presto! It worked!

Correction: I was able to get a match when I matched using the Movie DB also. Unfortunately, the original issues remains with matching automatically.

@drzoidberg33 how long should it take for the cache with Cloudflare to clear? It has been 3 days since your post on the subject.

Thanks, that worked for me. Where did you get the number from?

You can find the number if you look up the show on thetvdb:

@drzoidberg33

Would you have any idea what’s going on with current TV scanner as it really does seem a bit broken at the moment.

There are quite a few recent threads about various matching issues and they all seem to be being pretty much ignored.

Game of Thrones is still not matching,

another couple of examples that will not match include:

Better Call Saul and Mr. Robot
