I haven’t grabbed a log yet but I pull all subs in with opensubtitles.org agent and have an intel iris plus 655 gpu. I can try to disable subs but I usually don’t have them displayed when it happens.
Background on my installation: I’m also having HW decoder issues with version 1.18.0.1944. This is running on Ubuntu 19.10 but 18.04 did it as well. Hardware is Intel NUC8i7BEH with the Intel Iris plus 655 and graphics driver i915. All updates have been done to Ubuntu. As soon as HD is turned off it works great.
File started to play at 12:19 and pixelation started almost immediately.
Plex Media Server.log (3.4 MB)
I don’t think this is limited to 1.18.1 as i’m seeing it on 1.18.0
Image based subtitles are not processed in hardware at this time.
The Intel API does not provide this.
Intel is working on providing it but nothing is yet available for PMS use.
Hey Chuck. I download subs but i’m not displaying them. This is an intel 8 gen which i see had improvements in V1973 but i’m hesitant to test that based on the other users issues.
Have you been able to look at my log file? I’m anxious to get HD working with intel GPU’s.
Same issue - fix subtitle!
Having the same issue as people above. Using 1.18.1.1973.
With Hardware Acceleration on and PGS subs or SSA/ASS subs on the blurry picture as post #1 shows appears. Not on Iphone App but on Chromecast and Web Client Chrome.
Turning off PGS subs or SSA/ASS subs fixes the problem when Hardware Acceleration is on.
Not good.
Hey guys! I am digging into this issue today. Can anyone provide the following info;
- Does the issue only occur with PGS and VOBSUB subtitles?
- If not, does it also occur with ASS/SSA and SRT subtitles when burning?
- which CPU generation do you have?
- What video codec is your source media?
I have tested PGS and SRT on my 8th-gen 8700 with HW transcoding enabled and I don’t see the issue with H.264 and HEVC content.
Hi @chrisallen, I have this issue with the ASS subtitles, there are logs on this topic
I have a Synology DS218+
CPU : INTEL Celeron J3355
Where can I find the others informations what you needed ? I can share my video…
Regards
I have this issue on my DS918+ regardless of subtitle format when playing on my Nvidia Shield. (Everything plays fine on my Roku 4.)
So far this issue appears to be limited to NAS’s with an Apollo Lake processor.
As a stop gap, could those affected please try the following;
SSH into your NAS and then remove the new Intel Media Driver (iHD)
rm "/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so"
this will cause PMS to fallback to the older Intel VA-API driver (i965_drv_video.so
) for HW transcoding.
please let us know if this resolves your burning subtitles issue.
@chrisallen I verified that the issue still occurs with the new driver and subtitles turned on. I then renamed the new media driver to .old so it wouldn’t be used and restarted plex. Video is better. So it does appear to be an issue with the new driver. With the older media driver the video is slightly pixlated and blurry but is better after about 20 seconds.
@chrisallen - Removing (well, renaming) that file allows the video to play again with captions on my Nvidia Shields, but now the audio drops out after a few seconds. Still unusable with CC enabled on those devices (but fine on my Rokus, which are direct streaming instead of transcoding; I don’t know why the Shields can’t stream the video directly) but at least it identifies the source of the main issue here.
This has happened to me but it was after the latest Intel Display Driver update to 26.20.100.7262 and my machine restarted. I have not tried to roll back this driver update yet.
I have just rolled back to the previous intel graphics driver I had used. turned hardware acceleration on. No more crashing
Yes. Did the SSH and this fixes the problem with both subtitles for me. Thx!
My DS918+ server is also exhibiting this same issue after the 1.18.1 update. The Plex app on my LG TV, XBox One X, PS4, ans Samsung S7 all exhibit this garbled visual mess and constant buffering (even when quality is set extremely low) when image-based subtitles are on. This issue does not exist on my PC.
Also, all transcoding, outside of that with image-based subtitles, still works fine. As does direct playback. All tested files are saved as the MKV file format with an H.264 video codec.
Edit: Tried transcoding with SRT subtitles and the issue persists. Also kept getting a “your connection to the server is too slow” error when I tried SRT despite the fact that direct playback still works fine.
Is there a link to download 1.18.0 to rollback on until this gets resolved? All I see on the site, as formerly mentioned, is the 1.18.1 download.
@Mechonis please use this workaround for now
Do we know if this also affects Linux installs with Intel gen 8 CPU’s and Intel iGPU? I’m seeing this same issue with HA turned on.
