Hey all,
I am new here to the forums, so I apologize if I am adding this to the wrong area, however, I have been having some issue with my plex server not adding new movies; I currently have >500 movies, however, only 498 of them will show up inside plex, would anyone know is this the max number of movies that plex can handle?
Thanks for the response; the file name, and types are all okay, and they arenât in a being written or just been written status; I have been using Plex for several years now, and I understand how to name my files to get them to show up correctly. I am only new to the forums.
I did try separating my âMoviesâ folder creating sub folders such as âA-Dâ, âE-Hâ and moving my movie files into these folders, and listing them with in Plex as separate libraries, this has fixed my issue. It appears that Plex can only read 498 files within a given library.
Would anybody here be able to confirm for me that 498 is the limit that Plex can handle?
That is definitely not true.
While operation may get slower when many files are within a subfolder, it should not prohibit Plex from recognising the files altogether if you cross a certain file count.
But separating your files into subfolders is in general a good idea. Just be sure to do it the right way (particularly with tv shows, which donât tolerate arbitrary subfolders).
Respectfully, Plex will tolerate many incorrect naming approaches â at first. Only if your collection grows above a certain point, it will suddenly break down. So you could go years until this is affecting you.
Could you give me an example (with actual file and folder names) what did not work before?
Certainly; Before recreating new libraries I had issue adding anything if it were to make my movie library >500 titles. I actually couldnât go above 498, so thatâs what I thought the limit was. The movies titled âHellboy II The Golden Army (2008)â, âGuardians of the Galaxy (2014)â, âGuardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (2017)â, âIncredibles 2 (2018)â, âInside Out (2015)â, âScooby Doo Shaggys Showdown (2017)â, âThe Greatest Showman (2017)â, âThe Grinch (2018)â [all movies were in mp4âs format] these movies/files would not show up.
So the way the folders/files were set up were as follows:
W: Movies\Hellboy II The Golden Army (2008).mp4, ect
After adding the new libraries I now have >506 titles which show up inside of Plex under 10 movie libraries, and every movie now shows up with no change in their file names.
I as of yet have not experienced any issue with my TV shows not showing, however, since you specifically asked about my TV shows and their folders, titles; I have a Folder simply titled âTVâ with specific sub folders such as âA Discovery of Witchesâ additional Subfolder titled "A Discovery of Witches (Season 1) with files listed as âA Discovery of Witches (S01E01)â, âA Discovery of Witches (S01E02)â, âA Discovery of Witches (S01E03)ââŠect.
The TV show library should only âlookâ at W:\TV
The season/episode code doesnât belong in parentheses.
Name the season folder just Season 01 etc.
No further subfolders within the season folder.
(i.e. no subfolders per episode)
Certainly. Just drag the graphics file (PNG, jpg) into the message editor.
Donât put these screenshots into a word or PDF file!
Also, I canât simply name season folders âSeason #â, where â#â = the seasonâs number. i.e., W:\TV\Doctor Who\Season 1; Plex doesnât seem to be able to handle not having more information about what it is a season of; Plex will simply disregard the entire folder, and not list it anywhere. So I have to include Title and season number in the folder name.
To me, this sounds as if you have added W:\TV\Doctor Who to your library, instead of just W:\TV
I already wrote this above.
Edit your library,
go to the âAdd Foldersâ tab
and make sure that there is only one folder path in there, which points only to W:\TV, and not to a folder level below of that.
You appear to be using mp4 files.
Letâs rule out embedded metadata as a potential source of trouble:
Go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB
In there, grab the line âLocal Media Assetsâ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under
Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase
Now, name the folders and files exactly like so: W:\TV\Doctor Who (1963)\Season 11\Doctor Who (1963) - s11e02.mp4
We are getting nowhere as you are not understanding me, and screen grabs donât seem to help clarify. I am going to abandon this thread, with the understanding that if I can not figure out how to make it work in plex, then I will abandon plex and go with another product, because this is getting me nowhereâŠmy issue is and was with plex not being able to identify more than 498 items in a [Movie] folder; and not this naming of tv shows idea. (as I havenât had any issues with this).
This did not, and does not solve my problem; however, I donât seem to be getting anywhere with any of the responses provided here; I think my time will be best served by going elsewhere.
