Having trouble getting a new movie, Emma (2020), to shop up in my library

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: Plex Web 4.28.3

I’ve been trying to add the latest Emma movie from 2020 to my Plex library for my wife. I already have the 1996 verion in there, titled “Emma (1996).m4v”. I’ve tried adding the new film as “Emma (2020).m4v” and “Emma. (2020).m4v” as well as putting it in a folder called “Emma (2020)” but I can’t get it to show up when the scanning my movie library. I’ve even done the whole “Plex Dance” to no avail. Any thoughts?

do you have your files setup as;

movies\ <--- library points here
Emma (1996)\
    Emma (1996).m4v
Emma (2020)\
    Emma (2020).m4v
next movie (year)\
    next movie (year).mkv

No, I have all of the movies in the movies folder without folders. There is only one movie that I had in a folder previously, and that was The Rise of Skywalker so I could put the digital extras in there as well. I just tried using Emma (2020) to see if that would fix the problem.

I have them as described, mainly because there are so many remakes, an being able to add extras, subtitles etc…

I think I see the problem. My server just isn’t updating the libraries at all, it’s not just Emma. I added another movie and then changed the name of Frozen 2 to Frozen II and it’s not updating any of that… groan

Do this:

then make certain you’re using the exact file name at TMDB.

Then refresh metadata

or if that doesn’t work:

All items misbehaving - or at least the ones you’re working on now to see if that fixes the issue… if so, continue.

This is weird, Plex Media Server kept saying it was scanning my libraries, but it wasn’t detecting any changes. I restarted, didn’t work. Finally, I downloaded the previous version of Plex Media Server, installed it and ran it, and now it’s detecting the new files with no trouble.

Ive had this exact same thing happen about 6 months ago. would not detect random tv shows then when i went back a version it worked until they released an update.
i am now having this issue again with the latest version so id suggest its a bug again and hopefully fixed in the next version again.

What i have noticed the Folder is titled different to the File

The File has a period after Emma but the Folder does not, I wonder.

I tried it both ways but in the end, what worked was going back to the previous version of PMS. I was thinking I would wait until the next version to update again in case it is some bug

… at which point your cache files for your agents were probably regenerated - and that’s all you needed to do anyway.

Thanks. How do you do that without installing a different version of Plex?

That’s not a 100% guarantee - but if Plex can’t find perfectly named files (if you have any) - that might be the reason. Had to do it myself the other day when TMDB came up lame for something.
