HD/SD Channel Guide Data Mapping

Server Version#: 1.19.2.2673
Player Version#: 4.22.3
Tuner Make/Model: HD HomeRun PRIME
Guide/Lineup name: Spectrum Digital
Using XMLTV?: No
Channel number/Name: Any HD/SD Pair

I recently setup my tuner with my Plex server again and this time around there seems to be some issues with the same guide data mapping to two separate channels that feature the same content but at different qualities. The cable service here has 0-199 channels as SD and then 200-399 as HD duplicates of the 0-199 SD channels.

Previously Plex would enable all the channels no matter if the same guide data was mapping to two separate channels. However, now none of the HD channels get enabled after doing a channel scan and if I try to configure them manually I get an error about there being a duplicate channel mapping:

Is there something I missing from a config standpoint to enable these channels? Any help would be awesome, thanks!

I’m having the exact same issue. Somehow my DVR forgot half of my channels. I rescanned and now I can’t save because it has about a million of those prompts.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem? It’s July 2020 and I’m having this problem too but with this setup. I just updated tonight thinking my setup was outdated and new software would solve the problem. Unfortunately, it hasn’t.

In addition to the comments from the OP, my recordings are defaulting to the SD version of the station. It’s getting a bit frustrating watching a 35 inch picture on a 65 inch TV.

I’d be perfectly happy to disable all of my SD channels but the dialog box won’t let me. The duplicate error messages take precedence so I can’t make my changes until they’re cleared up. I don’t think I can make those changes because there are probably 50-60 to resolve and my system shows that they’re not mapped wrong. Every “duplicate” that is found is NOT mapped as a duplicate. For instance, the server error message is telling me that channel 37 and channel 434 are mapped to guide channel 037. Looking at the detail in the list, device channel 37 is Fox Sports West (SD), which is mapped to guide channel 37 Fox Sports West. Device channel 434 is Fox Sports West (HD), which is mapped to guide channel 434 Fox Sports West. They clearly are not mapped to the same guide. Something is going on behind the scenes that we can’t get to. Does anyone have a solution?

Another thing I tried to do to fix the problem was to rescan all of the channels but the button doesn’t respond. I clicked it and left Plex alone for four hours and when I came back nothing had happened. How do I fix this? HEEELLLLPPP!!!

My experience is exactly the same as joedanjou, please can someone answer this with some kind of answer? I can’t update my channels, and there are a lot of duplicates like this, and will remove many channels from my lineup, I compared all the channels online to Comcast Lineup and they are all perfectly identical to my list of available channels, minus the DRM ones. I am not sure how this is a duplicate, like above 1243 and 205 are mapped to 1243, but 205 shows mapped to 205 and 1243 shows mapped to 1243. Anything at all on this?

Ok. I finally realized that I was on my own on this post. I spent 45 minutes selecting every single issue that popped up where there were duplicate channels and I deleted the SD version of the duplicate. Now the issue is moot because I did the brute force work required to solve the problem. Plex developers 0. Plex users 1.

Were you able to fix all?

Not so much a fix as making the error go away. I ended up deleting all of the SD channels completely so there’s no possibility of duplicates in the future. What I did is select a random guide channel for each SD station. Once I had done this for all of the duplicates I was able to go back to select the SD channels and delete them because the duplicate error message wasn’t there anymore.

Nice! At this point I’ve given up on the live TV aspect of Plex. Too many hiccups before having to manually ID all the channels due to this bug. Plus the buffer filling time when starting live channels is immense on my server for some reason. I’ll keep this open though as there hasn’t really been a fix implemented yet.

could you send me your zip code so i can try to check the lineup. Is the lineup name which would show at the top in DVR Settings - just “Spectrum Digital” or is there more in the name?

DVR—Spectrum Long Beach Digital

ZIP 90807

It appears that there are a lot of duplicates in the Spectrum lineups. It is possible that our provider did not get SD / HD channels identified - in fact the Spectrum web site does not appear to distinguish

I will refer this to our provider to ensure SD / HD channels appear as different channels - as was done for some of the channels

I have produced a list of duplicare channels within Long Beach Spectrum lineup. Are you in a position to identify the SD / HD channels ?

Duplicates Spectrum Long Beach.zip (2.2 KB)

The breakout for SD/HD channels as far as I know is that all channels numbers less than 100 are SD. Anything above is HD.

I also spot-checked some of the channels that I watch and found a few that aren’t on your list. For instance, you show Sportsnet LA as channels 44 and 431. There is a third channel as well, 789, that isn’t on your list. Likewise, there are three ESPN channels per ESPN broadcast for ESPN and ESPN2. Channels 735 and 736 aren’t on your list. I don’t know why there are multiple HD channel numbers for one broadcast and my phone calls questioning this to Spectrum when I got this service were not answered by the service representatives I talked to. Their answers were that “…these are the channels and that’s what they are. No other info available.”

Thanks for your help on this issue.

It does not appear to be simply an SD / HD channel identification issue with the channels in the 2 ranges 0-199 SD and 200-399 HD

I will refer it to our provider to look into the SD / HD identification issue - but there is evidence of multiple HD channels or SD channels as well

We can see what remains as an issue once the SD / HD split has been done. The Spectrum channel list that they display for given street name/zip code does not distinguish between SD and HD

what zip code / lineup name?

I have submitted to our provider the list of duplicates on the following lineups to look into as priority and then check other Spectrum lineups

Spectrum Long Beach Digital
Spectrum Livonia Digital
Spectrum Leicester Digital
