I’m running the latest version of Plex Server (Windows) and NVidia Shield Player and the audio sync issues for HDMI passthrough have been getting progressively worse with each new release of the player since the new year. I’ve now had to disable it completely. Does anybody actually do and QA on new releases. The problem goes away if reset to the old factory installed version of the player, but then Android updates it to the new version and I’m to square one.
As a workaround, try disabling refresh rate switching and resolution switching. I disabled both for another issue and have not noticed the audio sync issue since. Caveat: Small sample size since making the change.
Plex client v7.31.0.16549, Shield Pro 2015.
PMS v1.19.1.2621, Synology DS918+
Auto-updates can be disabled in the Google Play store app.
Some changes we made to Refresh Rate Switching (RRS) in the new player were a little different to the old player, but much quicker. However, some of these changes resulted in AV being out of sync, or pausing on the first frame, so we had to make some fixes to resolve this issue.
Makes sense, I’ve seen both of those issues and turning of rate switching cured them. Thanks for info on the beta program, I’ve been involved beta testing this sort of stuff for years, so I’ll apply to join the program.
