Server Version#: DSM 6.2.3-25426 Update 3
Player Version#: 1.21.1.3876-3c3adfcb4
Hi-- I am seeking help as I am at a dead end in solving this stubborn “Please check that the file exists and the necessary drive is mounted” issue after upgrading to the latest Plex version. Let me save everyone some time by saying, I have done, and redone the instructions which were provided around “adding Plex” user to the shares on my NAS as a result of the changes with administrator Plex access. In fact I have used that fix before and it HAS addressed my issue. However this time, for whatever reason no matter how much permission resetting I have done, it just will not work. I have reset all permissions on the Shared folder, from non to adding back user/group access. I have stopped/restarted the Plex app, rebooted the NAS, readded the permissions, stopped the app, restarted, etc. so on and so fourth and it just wont fix the issue this time. The issue is on my “Video” share. Whats interesting is I also have a Music share in Plex. Initially this issue persisted with that share as well. In the process of reapplying permissions per the instructions, that actually worked for the Music share, and I can play music now. For some reason on my Video share it will not matter what I do. I am not sure if there is some sort of corruption or what causing this, but I’m at a loss.
Seeking any other ideas to try for this one as I have spent hours trying different scenarios and it hasn’t worked.
Thanks alot for this Chuck. While I don’t pretend to be a Plex expert by any means and never have been–what I do know is I have used Plex on Synology for probably 8 years now and this has always worked by using the default shares. Certainly things change, and perhaps it did when Plex changed its approach with admin access, but I guess I never saw that change associated with " you must be using your own shares for this to work". It sounds like I will have to change this approach regardless to solve the problem, it is what it is, so thank you for that. That said, what about ALL my years of metadata when I create new shares and “readd” content to it. Will there be a way that I can retain that so my watched/unwatched, etc. is retained, or will I loose all of that when I create new shares and migrate all my content to them and readd to plex?
The dependency is deep inside DSM and Video Station. Video Station, Audio Station, and Photo Station are were the conflicts have always been rooted.
We avoided them by creating our own shares.
In recent updates, Synology has been more assertive about establishing control of its platform.
As prime example, you should see what has happened in DSM 7.
It’s been so extensive that I needed to perform a complete redesign of how PMS runs on Synology.
All the storage locations changed.
I no longer have any “root” (administrative) access permissions at any point.
I am fully dependent on Synology providing:
A username for Plex to run as. The old “Plex” user wouldn’t migrate so I needed a new one. They wouldn’t even let me remove it.
The storage structure changed.
Not having ‘root’ access at installation time means I need ask them for access to the video transcoding hardware and everything else.
Appreciate it Chuck! Also I found a way to keep the meta data to by keeping the library in Plex as is, but adding the new share folder to it. Seems to do the trick. Thanks much!!
