Hisense 65Q8 - Plex app has disappeared

Server Version#:1.24.4.5081
Player Version#:?
I live in Australia.
I have been using Plex on my Hisense 65Q8 smart tv for several months.
The OS is VIDAA U4 (which is compatible with Plex).

Now suddenly Plex is no longer on my Hisense tv.
The Plex app has also disappeared from my list of available or downloadable apps.
Not sure how to fix the problem.

Can anyone help?

Yes this happened to me in the last few days no idea it’s not there and wont show up to even download it again. I also have a Hisense tv 10 months old. I also live in Australia

According to Which Smart TV models are supported?, for Hisense TVs, the Plex app is available only in the US & UK.

I’ve got the same issue here, also in Australia and have been using Plex on the TV since I bought it at the start of the year.

Strange thing is we also have a Hisense 55S8 in another room (connected to the same pc the server is on), and it’s Plex is still there and operating normally.
I’m going to try to Reset the TV.
I’m also going to try the procedures mentioned here :-
https://streamdiag.com/hisense-smart-tv-apps-not-working-fix/

Resetting didn’t do anything.
I also thought maybe deleting one of the installed apps might bring back the Plex app, but I don’t seem to be able to delete any of the apps.

The website I linked to didn’t help. Also some of the commands didn’t make sense.
e.g. “go to the Google Play Store” ???

Very frustrating.

I’ve just noticed another thing.
When using the settings on my 55S8, the manipultating of the settings is very close to the instructions in the User Manual (E-Manual), whilst the settings on the 65Q8 operate completely differently to any manual from Hisense or anywhere on line.
e.g. on the 65Q8 there is no way to delete an app.

same thing here… i literally just reinstalled it like 10 mins ago. it was playing fine before that, my old man went out for a ciggertte break and came back inside and it wasnt playing and had dissapeerd totally. i just went into the app store and reinstalled it. just look for the plex arrow like icon. it wont say plex on it. install it and relink to your plex account.

Under what category was the app in the app store? I can’t seem to find it on my 65Q8.

@kattanablade - so you are saying that the app was still available in the large group of My Apps.
That’s where I originally found the Plex app (arrow symbol only), and set it up.
But in my case, and I believe others, it has completely disappeared from all of the available apps.

The problem with the 65Q8 is that there doesn’t appear to be any way of adding or deleting an app.
The User Manual says you can, but you definitely CAN’T.
From what I can see, the Australian software/firmware is not only different from the international firmware, but is flawed.
I contacted (emailed) Hisense Australia about it on Friday, but haven’t received anything back yet.
Will post any reply I get.

Using the Home button, you open up your apps.
Then click on My Apps, and that will bring up all the other installed apps on the tv.
As kattanablade said, the Plex app icon is just an orange arrow symbol on a black background.

I’m not seeing the app anymore either on my 65Q8.

@markus101 Can you comment if this is a Hisense problem or a VIDAA version Plex problem?

And in your experience, do you believe Hisense Australia (with their quirky firmware) will fix their firmware problems (and Plex problems)?

sorry my previous post was a little vague, i was in a hurry. i have the Plex for VIDAA — Hisense 65U62GAVT. installed , thats what plex tells me anyway. i noticed that when i had to reinstall plex it was a black box with a gold arrow i think. now that its installed again, when i go to use plex its actually a white box with plex written in it saying plex for free movies and shows i think it says. its all a bit weird.
the only thin i can suggest to you is this.
i had an issue the other day where my dad was whinging that plex wasnt working any more at all. i played around with the settings on my pc and played around with settings on tv but nothing i would do would fix it or make it work. my pc had been on for arounf 14 days straight so nothing had changed with that. during my diagnosis of the issue i would turn the tv on and off a few times. without going into too much detail i know that tvs today are designed to basically spy on you and listen to everything you say and that info is uploaded by your tv to some unsavory places in the world. i know it sounds crazy. this basically means your tv never actually switches off!!! it is allways on no matter what , when you turn your tv off it only turns the backlight off the rest of it is still going ALLWAYS. so i remembered this little fact that i learnt over a decade ago. so stopped what i was doing and just unplugged the tv from the wall for a minute. plugged tv back in and hello plex was back and working again. that was about a week ago i did this and that sorted my previous issue. so maybe unplug your tv and try that. get back to me with what happends. ill be here for a few hrs to help you out. make sure you pull the plug from the wall wait a minute plug it back in try looking for plex app again.

We haven’t asked Hisense to remove the app or make it otherwise unavailable, we’ve reached out to them to ask why it was removed.

They’ve been investigating issues we’ve reported to them, but I don’t know when they’ll have fixes available.

well there are 2 issues at present. an issue i am having with plex and this new hisense tv which is the reason i am looking at these forums to begin with. the issue in this particular forum page is caused i believe by the Hisense tv itself not the app. my other issue i believe is the app but could also be the tv i have no idea. i believe a hard-reset will help fix most of these issues with the app vanishing on some peoples tvs. but thats just a guess from my own issues. my other problem is i have never been able to get plex to show the covers on any of my stuff in my libaray. the plex content shows just fine. my old tv showed covers just fine. the hisense tv has never shown a single cover. when you go into a movie the background covers work. i dont get it.

I can confirm it just happen to my 65q as well.it was there then after tv did an update it is no longer on the app store

i must have a slightly differant version tv then? i have the latest 2021 model 65 inch

Hi Markus
Haven’t tried it yet, but this quote from kattanablade could be the work-around answer. i.e.the problem is with Hisense (at least the Australian firmware), not Plex.

Just tried power cycling my Hisense 65Q8 (unplugging the power cord for a few minutes), but the Plex app did not return.
So this method is worth trying if you are having the same problem as many of us - but it definitely did not work for my Australian 65Q8.
