How to configure library with heirarchial shared file structure

Plex Media Server Version#: 1.40.1.8227
Running on Synology DSM 7.2.1-69057 Update 3

I’m new to Plex. I am trying to create a library for just my movies that does not include my music. I have configured shared files in the following structure:

-feNAS (main NAS directory)
— FE Shared
------ Movies
------ Music
------ Test
-PlexMediaServer

Permissions on FE Shared and subdirectories are:
admin and administrators: R+W
fedevices (my devices): R
fepc (my pc): R+W

Under Plex → Manage → Libraries, I select Add Library.
Type: Movies
Then under Add Library → add folders, I browse for media folders and select:
volume1/FE Shared.

I want to select
volume1/FE Shared/Movies
but I am unable to do that.

  • Is there a way to make that selection?

  • Should I simply create a top level myMovies directory and select that? I would place music in another top level myMusic directory.

  • Any other advice?

Thank you,

Fred

Keep in mind that the Plex Media Server isn’t running as admin. With DSM 7 it’s running under an „internal“ local system account called PlexMediaServer. In order for your server to be able to catalog your media you’ll need to give that user access to the folder/share in DSM.

Thanks. That’s precisely what I needed to know.
