How To - Read Episodes Titles From File Name?

Hello,

I’ve been trying for the past week to configure Plex so that it can read the episodes titles from my files.

In a way it does read them, but only the 1st season. The rest of the files are named with Episode X.

This is my folder structure.

/series/Dragon Ball Super/Season 1/Dragon Ball Super - S01E01 - The Peace Prize. Who’ll Get the 100 Million Zeny! Bluray-720p.mkv
/series/Dragon Ball Super/Season 1/Dragon Ball Super - S01E02 - To the Promised Resort! Vegeta’s Family Vacation!! Bluray-720p

/series/Dragon Ball Super/Season 2/Dragon Ball Super - S02E15 - Heroic Satan, Cause a Miracle! A Challenge From Outer Space!! Bluray-720p.mkv
/series/Dragon Ball Super/Season 2/Dragon Ball Super - S02E16 - Vegeta Becomes a Pupil!! Take Down Whis! HDTV-720p.mkv

The file format is according to the specs, what am I missing here?

Cheers,
Dan C.

Plex doesn’t read the episode title from the file name.
It fetches all series metadata from TheTVDB.

Season 2 of ‘Dragon Ball Super’ has no episodes 15 and 16.

What are my alternatives?

I tried renaming season 2 to
S02E01
S02E02

and to

S02E1
S02E2
but strangely, that doesn’t work either.

How can I configure Plex to read the episode title from the file name?

Perhaps try one of the anime agents out there - https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/77636/release-http-anidb-metadata-agent-hama/

Already tried that, but I’m happy with the default ones. All I need is Optional_Info to be used as Titles no additional features.

P.S. Already set them up according to the instructions, I can see the Hama.bundle + scanner running in the logs, but the titles remain unchanged. Anyway I don’t want to make this about Hama.

As OttoKerner stated, PMS does not read the title from the file name. It retrieves the title from the online sources. Some users include the title in their filename as additional information. The Plex format is: Series - SxxExx - Any text here.ext While the defacto standard is to include episode title (FileBot’s {t} macro), it is not required to complete matching.

If you wish to use the complete file name in what you see, you will need change to a “Other Videos” library type. Be forewarned as doing so will mean the loss of all metadata

Is there not an MKV metadata tagger (besides VLC)?

Your mistake is to use ‘absolute’ episode numbers.

What you have there as
Dragon Ball Super - S02E15 - Heroic Satan, Cause a Miracle! A Challenge From Outer Space!!
is indeed the 15th episode, but only as an ‘absolute’ number.
If you are dividing your tv show into seasons, the episode numbering starts from 1 in every season.
So the correct episode numbers for your two episodes from season 2 are actually:

Dragon Ball Super - S02E01 - Heroic Satan, Cause a Miracle! A Challenge From Outer Space!!
Dragon Ball Super - S02E02 - Vegeta Becomes a Pupil!! Take Down Whis!

Just take a look at how the show is listed at TheTVDB and it will become clear.

Renamed them as suggested, no changes in metadata detected.
