So my internet went out today, & it’s been down for a while. I went to use Plex on my XBOX One, which I had setup a couple years ago in a house where I only had internet from my phone & car’s Hotspot. I was having an issue, as I now use multiple user accounts, managed & shared, because I have other users in the house & it wasn’t working, so I came here looking for the instructions in hopes of making it quicker to fix. Unfortunately I only found a bunch of things saying it was not possible on the XBOX One. Which is funny because I’ve done it before.
SOOOOOOO
How To Setup Plex On XBOX One Without Internet*
- Note that these are the settings I’ve used, whether or not they are all required I’m not certain, & I may be missing things that are
- If you run into problems comment below & I’ll provide the missing information as best I can
- I’ll start with the standard
No Internet
settings. I won’t explain them in depth because I assume everyone has already read those posts
Plex No Internet Instructions ignore the part where it says it’s not possible on XBOX but otherwise it’s a good starting point
- Your server should be set to a
Static IP
,Secure Connections
shouldn’t be set torequired
, Your subnet or device should be included in the list ofIPs Allowed Without Authorization
- User Switching will not be available. If your device is signed in already it should use the last signed in account. If not setup your phone as a Hotspot & login, then reconnect to your home network
- The XBOX Plex app should be set to
Allow Insecure Connections
asOn Same Network As Server
Here’s What’s Missing From The Other Guides
-
Under
Settings
on your Plex app, underManual Servers
enter your Plex server’s local IP address underConnection 1 IP
in just the IP format (it won’t let you enter anything else) & your port inConnection 1 Port
-
Restart your app
-
Now your
Home
isn’t going to show anything, but underMORE
you’ll be able to see your server. -
Note: from my experience the Connection 2 didn’t work for my 2nd local Plex server, but Connection 1 worked for both my Asustor NAS server as well as my Windows 10 server. I believe it may only use that one if Connection 1 fails. But I have not confirmed that
