I think the latest update wiped out my plex server install completely

+1 all gone…Win10 Pro…

Gone for me too. The Repair fix by Juguard worked for me though.

  1. Add/Remove Programs control panel
  2. Right click Plex Media Server
  3. Click Change
  4. File open dialog window appears, click on the .exe in the folder.
  5. Click Repair.
I’m back up and running now.

be careful, doing this will reinstall plex into the DEFAULT folder instead of the specified installation folder (which has been choosen previously)!!!

Edit: I needed to do a full uninstall and reinstall with specifing the installation path.

Happened to me as well. I downloaded the latest version from Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More and ran the repair and all sorted after that

Just happened to me.
What are the steps to recover?

WHS2011
The issue reproduced and repaired the same way.

WTF? Mine is completely wiped. Gone! I download server from web and I’m asked to reconfigure everything. Years of library management GONE!

EDIT: the new server installs to PLEX folder instead of PLEAX MEDIA SERVER… Removed the new one and ran repair on server rescuing my setup. WTF is going on. After the months of bugs due to TvOS betas now this. Life with Plex has never been so hard.

Mine too. Main program folder is gone and when i try to reinstall the latest version that is available to download i get the following:
0x80070666 - Another Version of this product is already installed.

PlexLog.log (7.1 KB)

Looks like this version has been pulled.

I hadn’t updated and now it shows .4973 “up to date”.

Same here the 5000 killed my server… found the update on my pc and ran that and repair and it now loads. I did select the library update with new metadata… 5 hours and still updating. Not sure what the full story is, but it scared the hell out of me.

Sucks, but glad it wasn’t just me.

@blueboybob Misery loves company is truth…

weird thing… now the annoying plexamp issue that stopped playing music after the queue (even though the feature is engaged) is fixed… #silverlinings

Also happened to me, scared the (&#% out of me, I thought I had been hacked. But then I was like, wierd flex to hack my system and uninstall my media server… but okay.

Repair process worked, and I provided logs to Atomatth.

This should go in the Parthenon of terrible bugs.

Not the first time this happens. Ugh!

Thankfully the repair worked and nothing was lost.

This has happened to me as well. I followed the uninstall instructions but when I try and reinstall I got 0x80070666 error. Any advice welcome as I have completely lost my PMS at this point.

Did you only uninstall from control panel? looks like it is still detecting the bad newer .5000 version as being installed

Question: if I’ve already repaired a .5000 installation (verified working), should I downgrade to .4973 since .5000 was pulled?

Thanks!

@boblinthewild you can stay on it. The issue is with the installer not the build
