Ill-formed package manifest - install message has HTML cruft

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.40.2.8395-c67dce28e-x86_64_DSM7.spk
Player Version#: Irrelevant

The issue doesn’t prevent the package from installing… and it could be on the DSM as well, but other packages don’t usually exhibit similar error, hence prolly on Plex side.

Could be limited to int’l versions. Haven’t tried in English.

Repro

  • Configure DSM 7+ front-end to french
  • Install Plex from spk file listed (at least last two versions I tried are affected, the issue has been there a bit, seems have been under the radar from release engineering)

Check the screenshot and see if it looks normal to you. Hint: usually after a bang, there’s no quote, and after a quote there isn’t normally a greater-than. But these are used in *ML documents, yup yup.

This is the standard message printed when PMS is installed on DSM 7.
Many users forget the username changed. They then come to the forum complaining it’s “broken” when it’s not. The message is intended to inform and save time.

This message is printed when using DSM 7 because:

  1. The username changed from ‘Plex’ to ‘PlexMediaServer’

  2. ‘PlexMediaServer’ is now an “Internal System User” and no longer a 'Local User;

  3. Unless you give user PlexMediaServer permission to see your media, nothing will work as you expect.
