Impractical Jokers is not being managed properly

I have season 8 of this show and for some reason plex will scan it, pull the correct metadata, and then change the game up. It takes a few minutes and then says there are two seasons (there is only one) and calls them both Specials and renames the episodes.

I have tried changing my agent order several times, doing the plex dance, and starting from scratch but it cannot seem to manage the seasons of impractical jokers properly. I noticed when I added all of the seasons it did the same things with select episodes from each season.

All of my files follow plex’s naming guide exactly. Anyone else having this issue or know of some solution?

tell us how it is set up

and how is that.

For TVDB the order is TVDB → The Movie Database → Local Media Assets
I also had it set initially to TVDB → Local Media Assets

They are named the way the plex guide on naming conventions says to name them. i.e. Show Name - S08E01 - optional information (for me its the episode title)

Did you refresh metadata from the shows options menu after changing agents? Have you tried The Plex Dance ™

I can’t reproduce any issue with it.

Please show also the folder structure where these files are located in. Folder structure is very important with tv shows.

Yes I have tried The Plex Dance ™ 3 times now. Each time I changed the agents I have tried scanning library then refreshing metadata.

Every time I do The Plex Dance ™ and add the media back in, the information plex pulls is correct until I leave the TV library and come back to it, then everything is messed up. This is also the only TV series I have had any trouble with, all of my other series work great.

Here is the folder structure:
PlexMedia\TV\Impractical Jokers\Season 8\episodes

Can you get info on one of the episodes then View XML. then look at the GUID and parent GUID. for S08E01 should be like
guid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://254243/8/1?lang=en" parentGuid="com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://254243/8?lang=en"

Also are these MP4 or m4v files?

guid=“com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://254243/0/36?lang=en”
parentGuid=“com.plexapp.agents.thetvdb://254243/0?lang=en”

Also they are .mkv files

OK. when you created your library you are only adding the PlexMedia\TV\ to the library set up right?

may just need to see the scanner and tvdb logs. ( you can download a zip file from the troubleshooting section of your server settings)

Yes that is the only folder for the library.

Also added season 7 back in and it got even weirder!
Now there are 2 seasons, plex says 3

1

2

it seems the episode count is also off by 2 episodes.

What OS is PMS running on, since could be a rights issue

Its on windows server standard 2016

This starts to sound more like a damaged database.
Plex data folder on a network share, maybe?

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the Plex Media Server.log file and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

The files are on an Unraid NAS (smb share) so you may be on to something there. Ill take a look and get back to you.

I specifically meant the Plex data folder, not the media files.

I see, that folder should™ be on the server machine, not on the network share.

Inspect the logs anyway, as described above.

So I have 6 plex media server logs, should I check each of them? 4

Checked them all anyway only found the word corrupt in one of then, but it was apparently an attribute of some FFMPEG call. Nothing in relation to the db.

Then I’m almost out of ideas.
