Issue with Plex Samsung Smart Tv App

After todays Plex Server update on my Synology the plex app on my samsung smart tv stop working. It loads fine but whenever I want to play any media it keeps loading en never starts playing.

Any suggestions?

Same exact thing is going on here. Two tizen TV’s I’ve tried so far, one from 2018 the other from 2022 and neither of them want to play any media at all. I’ve got allow insecure connections enabled and Preferred` enabled as well…

I must say, I love the fact that everytime I update my server or client, something breaks. Seriously getting tired of it!

Yeah seems like they do no testing before updating software. This is serious N00B stuff.

Completely agree… And I’m sure that someone is going to chime in here very shortly, telling us to go buy a firestick. Saying they’re only $40 and that they work amazing… But at the end of the day, that’s not really the point. The fact that these TV’s are sold as “smart tv’s” often times with plex and advertised app/feature, should be enough for them to either figure out how to communicate with the TV manufacturers and how to get their updates running properly the first time…

I don’t understand why Jellyfin isn’t available as a downlaodable app yet on Samsung. Man, there’s a ton of “illegal IPTV” apps available directly from their app store… I know I would have jumped the bandwagon over to jellyfin years ago had they gotten that setup… But having to ultimately flash the TV is not something I really want to do…

hey, question for you… Are running plex in a container? And if so, are you using the official plex image by chance??

Same here on Tizen Q90r with Live TV only. Everything else is fine. The DVR is even recording programs fine. It just the live TV not playing back on the Samsung TV. The Homerun HD box is working fine if you use it as DNLA server in source and live tv play back working on all PC’s.

will turning the update back to an older version work?

and NO i dont want a external player like a under powered fire stick, i want it too work on my TV apps like i paid for.

in plex tizen settings, uncheck “Quality Suggestions”

We are temporarily deactivating the Quality Suggestions feature for affected clients while we investigate the cause of the issue. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Thanks, fixed my issue too. Was going insane trying to find what broke Direct Play as everything started transcoding all of a sudden. (Plex for LG 5.71.1)

So playback was working for you but it was transcoding? Was this on a local or remote server?

For me, all Direct Play files stopped playing direct and started transcoding. Nothing in my setup had changed. Disabling Quality Suggestions immediately brought Direct Play back.

And is it a remote or local setup? The setting does a speed test to your server and sets the quality to what your connection can handle to prevent buffering. But the feature is only for remote connections.

Sorry for my incomplete answer: It is on local server. Dasboard also showing it as Local bandwidth. (Plex for LG — LG OLED48C14LB Local (192.168.1.76))

And the server is on the same subnet as the TV? We had a user that was playing locally but the server was stating it was using the WAN connection.

Server seems to be on the same subnet as TV:

.200 = server
.76 = client

Thanks, yes it is definitely local. Weird then that it was using that setting.

Same here - but, unfortunately, i don’t have the setting “Quality Suggestions” in the App on my TV

It was working fine a couple of days ago - the “allow insecure connections” in the app on the tv and “secure connections: prefered” on the local server (Win 11) are set.

Any further ideas how to fix this?

Already tried:

  • restarted tv
  • restarted pc with plex server
  • resetted wlan on tv and rejoined the wlan
  • resetted app on the tv
  • reinstalled app on the tv
  • tripple checked and re-set the “secure connection”-thing on pc and tv

Just updated the local server to the latest Beta: Version 1.32.8.7639 but no luck

any ideas?
