I have recently gotten a JBL charge 5 wifi. Using the Chromecast build-in function, casting audio works great in apps like spotify and youtube music, but it fails in other apps - like Plexamp.
In the Plexamp app you can see the Charge 5 wifi, connect to it via the casting icon and you hear the “succesfull connection” jingle from the device. However, when I then want to start playing a song, nothing happens… the apps only shows a black screen and spinning circle of death. On some tries it I hear the connection jingle again (and again) from the device, but the end results stays te same, no song coming out of the Charge 5 Wifi …
Apps that tested and work:
Spotify
Youtube music
Radioplayer
Casting all screen audio via the Google Home app (this is a work around for apps that don’t work natively)

Anyone got an idea what the issue could be and how to resolve it?
PS: plexamp casting works perfectly fine to other devices in my house, so that’s not it…
Same issue here with a JBL Authentics 300. Luckily, as well as my Android phone I have an iPad so can send via Airplay, but I would much rather use Chromecast. Hopefully those with the knowledge will sort this inconvenience out soon.
You could subscribe to the Kef speaker thread I linked earlier to be notified of any updates there. Scroll to the bottom and change Normal to Watching.
The latest update does allow connection to my JBL Authentics 300, however playback is very hit and miss. Some tracks play the first note endlessly while the progress bar moves along as though the track is playing and some tracks just break up…hit next track and that plays okay at least until the next failure. Looking forward to a stable Chromecast connection.
In version 4.11.1, I encountered the same hiccups over the weekend, while before in version 4.11.0, I did not. Not sure if this minor revision could be the cause ?
I have both a JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi (firmware: OneOS 2.4 - 24.25.41.60.00) as well as a JBL Boombox 3 Wi-Fi (same firmware). Both are experiencing the endless repeating of a couple of seconds of the track I’m trying to play.
In addition to Plexamp, this also happens when trying to stream directly from Plex. So it is not restricted to just Plexamp. It most likely has not to do with Plexamp but Plex server trying to serve content to JBL.
Like everyone else streaming with Chromecast from Spotify or TuneIn to JBL → no problems.
Streaming using Chromecast from Plexamp or Plex to Google Nest Audio → no problems.
I would really like to have this solved because I like both the JBL as well as Plex(amp) but I would like it even better if they work together!!! :D.
I hope someone from Plex will reply to this… not just Plexpass users experiencing the same problems.
It seems the problem is persiting, I’ve read in another forum thread that people are using the Symphonium app (https://symfonium.app/), which can aloso connect to Plex. They say it works flawlessly, but I yet have to test it myself.
Works like a charm!!! First impression is… This app looks great (a bit nerdy, but very functional and that’s exactly what I like!). No b.s. Apple trash. Immediately purchased a license (just 6 euros).
