LG 28TN515S: Plex is not reachable

Hi All.

I am looking for help and advise with regards to Plex on a LG 28TN515S 28" Smart LED TV.

TV Details
Model No: 28TN515S
Product Code: 28TN515S-PZ.AEKRLUP
Manufactured: October 2020
webOS TV Version: 4.7.2-5091001 (goldilocks2-gulaga)

PLEX SETTINGS: ABOUT
Plex for LG: 3.13.28
webOS: 4.7.0

LG APP STORE: PLEX
Version: 2.2.0
Updated 17/03/2020

I’ve just brought the LG 28TN515S for my daughter and have been trying to setup plex.
Each time I load the Plex app I am greeted by “Plex is not reachable.”, there are four selectable options “Retry”, “Go Home”, “Sign in”, and “Open Settings”.
Retry just seems to restart the Plex app, and I am back to where I started, with it showing “Plex is not reachable.”
Go Home does not seem to do anything.
Sign in once again does not seem to do anything.
Open Settings will let me adjust a few settings, or manualy enter the plex server ip, no matter what setting is change or if I add the plex server ip, nothing seems to happen, and after pressing retry, and checking the settings they have all gone back to the default, and the manual plex server ip is now blank again.

Other stream apps such as YouTube, Netflix, etc, are working just fine.

So far I have tried the following:
Checked for TV firmware/software updates.
Uninstalled / Reinstalled plex app from the LG app store.
Tried WiFi connection.
Tried Lan connection.
Tried disabling IPv6.
Tried manual DNS server.
Tried factory reset of TV.

If anyone has any other ideas of what to try I would be most grateful.
If you require any pictures of the issues, please let me know.

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

Такая же проблема, когда будет решение?

As your TV is a HD TV and not UHD there is no Plex support at this point.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/204080173-which-smart-tv-models-are-supported/

Maybe a Roku or Fire stick

https://www.plex.tv/en-au/apps-devices/

Well that is a ■■■■■■ answer I have a LG LF650V 4k TV and have the exact same problem. So at this point you suggest we do what? Buy a different TV? pay for Plex for nothing or what?

I must admit that is a very disheartening answer, especially since the TV in question was only manufactured this month, and it’s running webOS 4.7.2.

So in no uncertain terms any and all LG Non-UHD TV’s no longer work with plex, no matter how new or what version of webOS the tv is running.

From what I have read is that I / we (LG Non-UHD Users) have only two valid opitions at this time, if we wish to continue to use plex on our Non-UHD Tv’s.

  1. Go out and buy a new LG UHD TV.
  2. Buy an external plex compatible streaming device.

As far as I am aware LG does not even currently make / sell any less than 30" Smart UHD TV’s

I would hate to guess just how many Plex user’s there are out there with LG Non-UHD TV’s.

Well I do hope that will change. We have 2 LG televisions & I was delighted that I didn’t have to buy a Roku for them, indeed Plex is one of the default apps on them, & it worked fine on both until a day or so ago.

I am also in the same boat. 32 inch WebOS TV, 6 months old no connection. I hope this is a temporary glitch and Plex would fix it quickly. It would be a shame otherwise…

Going slightly off topic here, but still related. Does anyone happen to know what data is collected by Plex’s analytics?
I ask as maybe they (Plex) could share data regarding what tv’s etc are being used, say something like Steam does with their Hardware & Software Survey.
As it would be really interesting to see the percentage of devices using 720p, 1080, 4k, etc, but clearly that data would now be bias towards UHD, as we can no longer use our devices.

Here is a link to what you asked.

https://www.plex.tv/en-au/about/privacy-legal/privacy-preferences/

Now I would suggest that it has nothing to do with a TV Resolution but more to do with the TV hardware capability to use WebGL for a more reliable and functional experience.

To add further you may be experiencing Secure connection issue, below is a Plex support article on the subject.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200430283-network/

I managed to get the LG Plex clients working again by setting on the server:
Settings-Network-
Secure Connections-Preferred… Was Disabled
List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth - 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0… was empty.

Hope this helps others

Thanks mate works

Hi to all I have a lg tv too and I can’t connect to plex server

It get stuck in this screen

And nothing works

Tried this but still no dice. I’ve changed the settings as you suggest, quit and restarted the server, even unplugged and restarted my tv, but still “Plex is not reachable”

Is there something I’m missing?

If true it’s absurd that only UHD LG sets are supported when DVDs are only SD, BluRays only HD, & there’s very little broadcast in the highest quality. UHD may be the future, but it’s overkill for most of us now.

Do you have in TV app settings /Manual server.

Your Server LAN IP and Port (32400)

Patman1200 thanks a lot! It works!

The server lan IP is blank. Should I fill this in? I presume with the lan ip of this computer (where the Plex server is). I’m not sure what it is but can find out. I think that the DHCP setting is for dynamic allocation of IPs so maybe I should give this one a reserved IP address too

Also what are the two connections about? Should they be identical?

Yes and yes, your computer’s LAN IP. Reserving your servers LAN IP is a good move.

You only need filling one as you only have one server.

You should find you server address in your router

Fill this field out with your server IP
