I installed the sub-zero plugin for Plex that grabs .srt subs even for movies that have PGS subs embedded. When playing the 4k movies with .srt subs, Plex does not transcode the content for the app and I get both subtitles and playback without buffering.
So far I’ve tried all of the recommended courses of action but still the LG TV Plex App fails me.
Since the update last year, it has been utterly dreadful to watch 4K content, with constant buffering.
I’ve even rebuilt my entire Plex environment, now running on the following:
Dell R710 server. (Dual Xeon 5670, 144Gb RAM)
VMWare ESXi 6.7
Windows 10 Pro VM with 8 vCPUs and 16Gb RAM assigned
Ubuntu 18.04 VM with 4 vCPUs and 8Gb RAM assigned running Varken and Grafana for usage and monitoring metrics.
Storage is local on VM Host (6x2Tb SAS drives in RAID5)
Content is on 10GbE connected Dell R710 - iSCSI host (single Xeon 5650, 48Gb RAM, with 6x4Tb SAS drives in RAID5.
Its become ultimately so frustrating to have invested so much in building a massively capable, only for a small application to let me down.
I’m hoping desperately that this is resolved soon.
I have a LG OLED65B8PLA with Plex 4.7.1, Plex media server Version Version 1.16.6.1592 running on another room on Ubuntu 19.04 and I get the same buffer issue on some movies. I have a 1Gb internal LAN, the TV is connected via AC wifi to a Microtik AP.
ex …from.Home…2160p.UHD.Remux.HEVC.HDR.Atmos.TrueHD.7.1-playBD - buffering on the Plex app however works fine on the LG internal player.
…game…2160p.UHD.Remux.HEVC.HDR.Atmos.TrueHD.7.1-playBD works fine in the Plex app.
Also, the picture quality (colors) look erased on the plex app for bot movies, on the internal player they are more colorful.
My settings on server and agents/TV are set to maximum, disabled secure connections, added manual server IP still buffering and bad quality.
There is a bitrate issue in Plex app, first movie BITRATE…: 53.7 Mb/s, second one BITRATE…: 36.0 Mb/s
AndreiPlex, this issue has been discussed in many other discussions. To sum it up any Title with HD-MA 7.1 audio will suffer this issue. As you have found LG SmartShare works fine and a remix to 5.1 audio also works. Everyone awaiting a fix.
Let me add my 50 cent to this discussion. It’s a year since I purchased LG TV.
Problem remains. From time to time any content starts to lag terribly. Resetting WiFi access point and TV helps.
Lagging reduced very much after all the software updates performed during this period. But not extinguished completely. Sometimes happens still.
Its NOT the problem of PLEX, I suppose! It’s some problem with a network LGconnection! HDTV content in some online movie theaters lags also! (okko.tv, ivi.tv)
So! To make a conclusion - problem is NOT with plex but with stupid LG soft-/hardware.
The PROBLEM is Plex. I have installed miniDLNA - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MiniDLNA (global config) - on my Ubuntu box and I can see flawless 4K HDR with 7.1 Sound AND subtille with LGs native Player. No lag, no buffering at all!. All took max 5 min ;).
Hey can you help me please. I’ve got a new LG TV and my Plex keeps on buffering. My tv is connected via WIFI and has a speed of 1gb a second. I will appreciate it so much. I have limitless resources so I’ll appreciate a very basic solution please. Thank you so much!
Hi, do you have a dual band Wifi Router? 2.4/5 Ghz
If so log into your router and try a different Channel for wifi.
Now if you TV is a far distance away from router you maybe better off using 2.4 Ghz band which normal default Channel is “6”. Change it to Channel “11” example. If router is close same room use 5Ghz Band and try a couple Channels.
Try elevating your Wifi Router, keep it away from other electrical devices, be aware of Electrical interference like some lighting or cooking devices
Also in the past I have experienced issues with LAN IP, Leasing IP addresses sometimes called Static or Reserved can assist with TX and RX errors. (TV IP, Server’s/Computer IP). In the LG Plex app settings you can manually configure your Server Address and port, I suggest to do so. Also In Plex Server/ Network settings add your netmask address normally 255.255.255.0
Do not enabled Ipv6
In Transcoder settings Plex Server, Quality at " Automatic"
Other things you can try is Change your TV’s DNS from Auto to a Public DNS like 8.8.8.8
restart your Tv from the power outlet, for 2 minutes.
Make sure your Computer is connected to Router by Ethernet not wireless or use a Powerline devices to Router and TV if Wired is not available.
My LG 2018 OLED does not exhibit these issues at all so I’m puzzled at this discussion exists.
Stuff that worked for me:
Go to you TV browser and test the connection in fast.com. If it is slower than it should, go to your screen share app and turn “listening mode” off (or just turn it off anyways).
4k files stopped buffering definitively when I put my server and TV on different bandwidths of my Wifi connection (TV on 5ghz and PC on 2.4ghz). Hope this can help.
plex server on WiFi should be avoided when possible. plex client on WiFi should also be avoided when possible. Both on the same wifi network at the same time can be a big issue especially if they are on the same SSID/channel, then they fight each other for airtime. It can help if you split it across multiple frequencies / channels, expecially if your router / access point has multiple radios so it can servie both simultaneously. It is much easier to be successful via cabled ethernet. While LG TV’s are limited to 100mbps on ethernet, and WiFi is theoretically capable of higher, real world results virrtually always favour the cabled option.
That being said most buffering is not caused by local network performance, so make sure to pursue the usual suspects first (subtitles forcing video transcode, TrueHD audio forcing transcode, incompatible video stream forcing trascode)
hi i am on 5ghz
i have changed quality setting to automatic.
Still buffering issues. If i watch on my mac or iphone - works fine. If i airstream on LG TV - same issues - buffers. what else can i do please? I will really appreciate it.
