LG webOS Plex 3.60.1 Buffering Problem

Thank you. So right now I have a tv and modem. Tv connected via wifi. Should I try connecting tv directly to modem? Server is not controlled by me. I am sharing with main user.

Arent we lucky we have another option called Xplay…

Assuming your router has a small 4 port switch or something like that, you can plug your TV and your plex server right into one of the LAN ports. Avoid anything labeled internet or WAN.

Hi thanks.

The content I’m viewing is a actually from a shared server…

Kind regards

I’ve been having the same buffering problem with large files. Did the speed test and found out my LG TV bluetooth connection to a sound system was seriously affecting my internet download speed. Once I turned off bluetooth, the buffering issue dissapeared. Will have to check the channels topic, bought this TV especially for watching plex while streaming audio to a superior device

Did we had some plex updated that made it support 10 bit mkv? (it seamed to be the problem)
If not, I’ve recently updated from windows 7 to 10 and my buffering completely disappeared, even o the same GHz wifi network (before I managed to solve it connecting the TV on the 5GHz and the computer on the 2.6GHz network of the same modem)

Hey up,

So, ive recently been having this issue too.

Random stuttering when it shouldnt be the case. My network is wired with cat6 cable, router upstairs then cable down to a switch and then that into the TV. I have the same error where plex doesnt find the profile.

I have checked and for some reason, the app thinks the server is remote despite it being given a dedicated IP within the settings to prevent this. Anyone found a definitive fix?

I have / had the issue. In 1080P or 4K, lan is cat 7 and WiFi 2,4 and 5ghz (AC). And not every serie/ movie had this issue. But i have found the problem . If i disable the subtitle any serie / Movie will run smootly 1080p or 4K. Enable i some internal / external sub it will stuttering. I m looking why and how to solve it.

That’s generally to be expected. See this support article on Smart TVs and scroll down to the end of the section on Direct Play Video Support.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/203810286-what-media-formats-are-supported/

Where it says:

Enabling subtitles of any type will require them to be transcoded (burned) into the video stream.

There are other conditions related to audio encoding etc.

I gave up on using the Plex app on LG WebOS 65 inches. The problem is old for months. It’s fine with a TCL Roku 55 inches… If the LG as enough RAM, then it’s a software issue, if LG doesn’t have enough RAM, it would be limitation of the TV. If Plex was doing statistic and test with specific TV, they could workaround some of the issues by proposing (or apply automatically) a specific format and size of streaming to make that TV - Plex version happy.

So is this going to be fixed for WebOS? The same problem existed in the Android TV Plex app and was apparently fixed recently.

Player: direct play subtitles even when transcoding audio or video.

The last webOS update broke my 4k HDR direct play/stream on my LG tv, where the previous version played everything perfectly.

I ready the entire thread and spent two hours troubleshooting with no solution in sight Then something popped in my head. Since transcoding relies on HW acceleration, I decided to change 3 things under “Transcoder” PMS settings.

  1. Disable video stream transcoding - checked
  2. Use hardware acceleration when available - unchecked
  3. Use hardware-accelerated video encoding - unchecked

Transcoder quality, Transcoder default throttle buffer, and Background transcoding x264 preset were left in default settings.

Checked all my devices, LG, Nvidia Shield, iPhone, iPad, Windows 10, and MacPro… no buffering and just direct play, direct streaming. No more transcoding for any devices

Hope this helps. I was scratching my head why this was happening but I did it to myself for volunteering for testing the new app.

Update…iOS devices do not play mkv/mpeg2 content without HW acceleration/encoding.
May have to wait until Plex update the webOS to debug 4k direct play problem. Sigh.

Any advice to rollback to previous webOS version?

I wanted to watch today a 4k HDR film with subtitles, and according to plex video and audio was both direct play, still I’m getting constant buffering. I checked the logs and it’s definitely transcoding…I checked with the last 4k movie I watched without any issues, and it was also buffering and transcoding this time.
Something is definitively got broken here.

Plex Version : 4.29.7
Plex Server Version 1.19.4.2935

I find out that the lg TV’s only have a100mbit nic some 4k hdr movies have a peak higher than the 100mbit, the solution for my problems at home was to use the WiFi on the 5g network it’s working fine now one or two TV’s both on wifi doesn’t have any issue s anymore with 4k hdr

if you want stable wired gigabit in excess of 100 mbps There is also an option to use USB3 to gigabit. Some adapters work right off the bat apparently, the few I had didn’t .

I am using Plex through LG C7 and I get constant buffering during 4K movie play back. All direct and no transcoding. Sometimes the audio will transcode but it doesn’t matter because it still buffers constantly. I have tried both WIFI and Ethernet port and it still does it. I have noticed WIFI does it less than Ethernet though.

Any official response to this issue lately? I mean, this thread is huge and I don’t see any help from Plex recently. My settings in the C7 are also insecure connection as well.

I am having the same issue with OLED55C8PUA, webOS 4.2.0, Plex 2.2.0. It’ll start transcoding as soon as I put on any subtitles, SRT, or PGS. XPlay can play subtitles no problem.

Also, I have a Samsung 4k TV which has no problem playing either SRT or PGS subtitles directly on the Plex App. Both TVs are connected over 5Gzh Wi-Fi internet, 150mbps speed test results.

After reading some of the replies on this thread, it appears that this problem is software related to the Plex app and not vendor hardware.

I do not want to spend extra money to get Nvidia Shield or Firestick 4k just to watch some foreign 4k movies with subtitles. Hope the plex team fixes this as soon as possible.

I’ll add my experience. When I have my Plex server connected to my router via wired 1Gbps Ethernet, I get buffering/stuttering when playing 4k HDR video (~80Mbps direct play). When I disconnect the server Ethernet cable and connect the Plex server via 5 Ghz 802.11ac the same video plays perfectly every time. TV is always connected via 5 Ghz 802.11ac. All other clients play the same video perfectly no matter how the server is connected.

Does your Plex server have a 100mbps network link?
