I’m having a similar issue, since the update.
Tried to watch a 40mbps video and it kept buffering every couple of minutes.
I finally gave up on Plex and tried LG’s photo and video app, which played the file without any issue.

Same here. 1080p direct play will buffer every few seconds with the new player.
Also: The player navigation is extremely sluggish and nearly impossible to use properly and my local server is detected as remote… as I noted a couple of weeks back in my review of the early access version…
I am not sure why I am even writing this… apparently the devs do not care.
Its unbelievable that theres no update in so many days to fix a CRITICAL BUG like this buffering issue… can’t playback anything.
In my case the problem was that Plex wasnt able to connect directly to the media server. For me changing “Allow Fallback to Insecure Connections” to “always” fixed the problem and Plex was able to direct play everything like before the update.
As a workaround this might help you until Plex staff fix the problem.

I’m giving it another week at most before i go looking for an alternative. 30 second buffering for 30 second watching is not acceptable.
It works just fine in the browser, but as soon as i try it on the lg app it’s a gamble if it will work or buffer all the time since the redesign.

We need more information on which devices and media (XML media info and samples) to investigate further. I’m seeing stuttering with high bitrate UHD (~75Mbit), but not long term buffering.
PMS logs with Log to Media Server would also be helpful.
Same here: I see direct stream for video and audio on my 4k.

I have Tombraider movie that direct play on Xplay, but it directstream on Plex.
X-Plex-Model => OLED55B7V-Z
X-Plex-Platform => webOS
Tested it just now with a 20 minute 720p subtitled anime file, it seemed to buffer a lot for several minutes at the start, then get to a normal speed (i didn’t finish playing it though, so it might buffer more later).
Do you want any specific part of the logs, or should we just send you the entire log, if so, can we do that directly?
This is the reason why direct play won’t work. In my testing stream selection on the LG TVs doesn’t work, direct stream shouldn’t have a major impact.
Ideally restart PMS and then reproduce the issue and send the whole log file over. You can PM it to me.
Well I cant watch the movie without constant buffering here and there.
I modified my MKV to have the audio stream at first and set it by default, still streaming…
Ill try to add more log tomorrow.

No mention this time that the selected audio stream is not the first audio stream, so what is the problem this time?
Can we just roll back to the old app? I honestly prefer the old design, LG scroll wheel doesn’t work with the new design and the new app buffers constantly.
Why not just give us the old app back???

OK I’ve tried Thor Ragnarok 4k movie I had (56249 kbps). This movie DirectPlay on both Xplay and Plex app.
Movie buffer on Plex app but play perfectly on XPlay.
Conclusion Plex app is buggged.
I have even Wired my TV with an Ethernet cable directly and it still buffer.

Before I had not any issues, I do not know which version of Plex I had, but I remember that the TV updated the OS a few weeks ago I think and before this update and with old design version of Plex I did not have any issues.

Just attach the whole zip file. 
Actually if you are new to taking logs there may be some sensitive info in there so best not to attach directly.

BTW, I have tried to play from my office through the websie even with a VPN working, and everything works fine. The problem only is reproduced in the LG Smart TV.

No problem at all.
So are you getting buffering with all content, or is it limited to very high bitrate such as 4K?
I have only had my LG OLED for two or three weeks and although I am no fan of built in apps I thought I may as well check it out. To be honest it was pretty unusable with anything initially
Now any buffering seems to only occur for me at least with extremely high bitrate 4K and although it will probably never be my main client it has come a long way in those few weeks, so hopefully any issues will be ironed out.
