LG webOS Plex 3.60.1 Buffering Problem

previous 4k HDR remuxes which used to buffer, now plays flawless

Played 10 mins of a 53Mbps H.265 HDR file without issue. Previously buffered every few seconds. Will try watching in its entirety soon.
Thanks @markus101

Brilliant, that bodes really well based on the sorts of files I was having problems with.

I have to say, I’m super jealous of all of you that this update has solved your problem. My problem remains unfortunately on all of the movies I had issues with previously.

I know this sounds terrible, but I hope I’m not the only one having issues at that this point…

I disconnected my Ethernet cable from the TV, and configured Wi-Fi. I am now getting the same results as the rest of you. The movies I was having issues with are playing without buffering. The 100Mb LAN connection is garbage on this TV - why they didn’t put 1Gb on a TV of this price just baffles me.

I hope this helps someone else who might be continuing to have buffering issues over Ethernet.

When I tried it first time I had the same buffering. I then reset my PMS docker, and force closed/opened the WebOS app, and restarted my router. I’m now 5 mins into a 4K HDR DTS film with no buffers, where previously it buffered repeatedly within the first minute. Fingers crossed, so far so good. I suggest you restart all the various bits between your seat and your PMS  I’m on ethernet btw…current video is 40Mbps. I’ll try a higher one a bit later.

85Mbps 4K HDR DTS 7.1 smooth as silk on LG ethernet.

Thanks @markus101 and the team. From all my testing things are buttery smooth now. A couple of files still buffer but now I think those files are corrupt. Everything else I’ve tested that did have problems is fine now.

You’re doing great work!

LOL. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ll give it another try later.

I’m using ethernet as well, no issues with a 75Mbit file now. I’ve only used ethernet for it (outside of some brief testing on wifi). Hopefully you can work it out and it’s not hardware related.

Thanks for the feedback, great to hear that it’s working as it should now!

Cool!! Thank you.
I have tried a movie in HD and no buffering.
I am using wifi as well, and I have even moved my media centre to another computer and everything fine.
Thank you very much.

Hey, It looks good. Problem solved for me too!. Everything is fluid and good, i see a hidden unicorn and all is filled with butterflys!

Great Great Work, team of Plex!

After watching a few movies, then going back to a high bitrate H.265 UHD w/ TrueHD, buffering is back. This is all that shows up in the log:

If another log would be useful, or a higher loglevel, please let me know.

Same here, LG 65SJ800V, went as far as to clear all the config data on my WD PR2100 via SSH and installing the latest beta build from fresh. Movies playback fine on my iOS app and chrome browser, all devices are using the same WiFi connected to the same router.

This wasn’t an issue a week or so ago.

Logs that include the web client logging would be helpful:

Also check Media Server Status to see how the app is connected to the server, for high bitrate content secure connections cause stuttering on LG TVs. If the server requires secure connections or the Prefer Insecure Connections setting doesn’t allow access to the server you’re connecting to then a secure connection will be used and will cause stuttering.

I set the server to allow insecure, and ensured the client was set to allow fallback and prefer insecure on same network. The client is seeing it as “Nearby” but still has a green lock icon. Buffering continued:

After restarting the Plex app on LG, I tried using “Always” for insecure connections, which resulted in all remote servers throwing an error, and the local one still showing a green lock icon. Setting it back to prefer insecure on same network, they once again all showed green locks. This time, buffering seemed to be gone.

Can the LG just not handle TLS properly, or is the TLS session being restarted so often that it’s taking too many cycles from the decoder?

I’ll watch this title in its entirety tonight or tomorrow, and check a few other UHD files as well, then report back.

The connection isn’t restarted, it appears the TV just can’t keep up with the extra overhead required to do TLS + playing the video.

I think you’re right, after turning off such security settings on the client end there’s no buffering whatsoever now.

hey markus, i hope you can help me. i already read nearly this whole thread and a few other from people with similar problems.
sadly with the recent LG Plex App update my problem still is persistent.
secure conncetion in server settings is deactivated and i also tried everything client side on LG Plex App: manually added server and port, chose direkt play only, chose direct stream only, preferred insecure connection… nothing helped.
i cant seem to find a solutions, i’m desperate.

i am also suffering from buffering at 4k videos, nearly every 10-15 seconds the app starts buffering. on windows or android everything is working fine. and the same videos file played flawlessly also with the old LG Plex App.
Plex Media Server.log (469.6 KB)

i uploaded my PlexMediaServer.log in hope you can find something out in it that helps.
i watched 4 minutes or something of the 4k file on my TV (LG 65SJ800V) and had buffering like every 10 seconds, so the log should be full of it i hope.

dont know if it helps but after investigating the log a bit a found a few things strange lines:
X-Plex-Device-Screen-Resolution => 1920x1080 — its a 4k file and my tv is 4k, why this resolution is metioned there?

ERROR - Unable to find client profile for device; platform=webOS, platformVersion=3.7.0, device=, model=65SJ800V-ZB i already read something about wrong profile in another thread and about editing the HTML TV App.xml in profiles folder.
just in case it might be important you can watch my HTML TV App.xml here: https://pastebin.com/QGGUv41f
there is no DirectPlayProfile in it. after watching some others of the profile xml files, they mostly had these strings.

sry for spamming so much, i just wanted to give every information that might be helpful.
really hoping for a reply from you!
greetings!

Is the TV making an insecure connection to the server? Check under Media Server Status in the user menu, a green lock means it’s secure, which won’t work.

If you’re using a wireless connection can you try a wired connection (or vice-versa).

The UI interface is 1080p for 4k screens.

I haven’t looked into the issue with the unknown profile, but that is not the cause of the stuttering, you can ignore that.
