Yes i still have the green lock, you are correct. oO but i already set everything to allow insecure connection. did i miss something?
but it says the server is local, not remote.
will try a wired connection too and report back when i’m home.
thank so much for your answer! you give me hope i chose the TV cause it got the plex app, would be s shame if i cant get it to work again.
nevermind, the green lock is gone, so insecure connection as we want it. and still buffering.
i connected the TV via cable and had no buffering, tried different 4K files.
the TV has a slow 100 mbit LAN. the 5 GHz wifi should be faster anyway. (router = Fritzbox7590, newest generation, very fast 5 GHz Wifi). and the TV also has way better wifi speed than my smartphone, and still it buffers 4k and my smartphone can play it withouth problems in Plex Android App on same 5 Ghz wifi.
and i never had these problems before over wifi, in the past all 4k files just played without issues on the TV.
I thought switching to Wi-Fi solved my problems, but it seems that was masking some other issue with buffering. No matter if is use Ethernet or Wi-Fi, buffering exists for certain movies. I have verified that the green lock doesn’t show up on my media server from with the LG OS Plex app. I have verified all secure connections to be disabled. I have also verified that I have the latest version of the PMS and Plex app software in their respective locations.
Although I’m not happy that @Schrottacc is having issues, I’m happy I’m at least not alone in still experiencing these issues.
Please let me know how to troubleshoot the issue further, and what I can do to help get this resolved.
I am still having buffering issues. I selected “always” to use unsecured connections. I even selected disable secure connected in Plex (Unraid server). None have worked at all. I’m connected by wired. The dumb green lock still shows though and I don’t know what to do next to remove it. Help!
please plex just give us back the old plex app for lg it worked perfectly without bufferring transcode problems subtiltlle problems or anny other problem that this app has or at the very least give people the option to switch back other whise even people who have or are paying for plex pass will have to pay for a third party app that does work
Seriously. You guys made my Plex app on my LG OLED completely useless. I cannot watch a movie without buffering. I had to buy an Apple TV because your app is worthless now.
I finally managed to fix my problem after hours of testing and researching.
It wasnt an issue of the app at all. Still i want to give big thanks to markus for trying to help and sorry for wasting your time since it wasnt related to the lg tv app.
Now to my solution:
I noticed that also other streaming like youtube was slow. So i made a speedtest in the lg browser. And it showed only 10 Mbps although i have a 50 Mbps internet connection. On 2,4 ghz the tv and streaming was much faster which was strange, because 5 ghz should be faster.
After a bit research i found out that many LG TVs have a problem with 5ghz wifi with bigger wifi channel than 100. Checked my router and its autochannel setting really changed the wifi channel to 100 since it became empty recently.
I deacrivated auto channel in router settings and manually set it to channel 36.
And voila, 5 ghz speed with the TV is great again and also 4k videos run smooth within plex.
My TV is a LG 65SJ800, but from what i read a lot other LG TVs have these issues with high wifi channels.
In case you havent tried that yet, definatly worth a try.
I have my LG TV connected via a wired connection. Is there any way that this problem might still be affecting me? And how would I go about chaning it? Any advice would be appreciated, thank you
Did you check all secure connection settings like markus sugested?
You can still do a apeedtest (any speedtest website) in LG browser app to see if at least your full internet speed goes through the wired connection. If the result is significantly lower than your real internet speed then you know at least that it isnt a problem from plex app or plex server.
Or check if streaming works better over DLNA.
Thanks Schrottac, I did indeed uncheck the Secure connection settings in both the Player app on my LG TV and in the Server settings. It does buffer less, but still about every minute. The speedtest just went up to 100mbps, my normal is 500 down, 50 up, but people on the forums are saying that the 100 is a limitation from the LG TV, but that should still be easily enough to stream 4K files, correct? According to MediaInfo my 2160p files are all around 45-50.
Is there a way that Plex might not be detecting that Server and LG are on the same home network? Not sure where the limitation could lie otherwise, because other apps and and even game consoles have no issues and run over the same switch behind my TV, directly wired into my router.
the 100 mbps via wired should be enough for 4k playback, yes. did you test wireless connection also? 5 GHz wifi should be way faster than a wired connection. maybe you can test that.
Yes, I did intentionally unplug the wired and switch to Wifi, which yielded 20mbps… i get around 450mbps if i test the same wifi on my laptop from the same distance… I’m starting to seriously doubt this LG TV, it a 65SJ850, that I just purchased 3 months ago, so I think technically that one should not be the issue.
Playback via DLNA was smooth at first too and then started buffering, which leads me away from the error being with the Plex app, but from here on I don’t really know…
I also disabled directstream and have only play enabled and i select the first audio track of each file and subtitles are disabled, so there should really not be any transcoding going on. And the LG should be perfectly capable to receive all the data…
I had the same issue with wifi. It had only 15 mbps on the LG TV. Try to switch the wifi channel to a lower one in router setting. I took channel 36 for 5 GHz. After that wifi on LG was blazing fast again.
Alright, so the WiFi Channel 36 works now and it has about 280mbps throughput, interesting
Thanks for you help.
I know this is not directly thread related, but maybe your expertise might help me out with another small issue. My Remux files (doesn’t matter if 1080p or 2160p, but usually HEVC/x265) show video glitches in fast and bright scene changes or even with just single spots on the image if there’s flashes or highlight changing quickly. It only happens on the LG TV, the original file is fine when played back on the different Media Players on my PC.
I’ve read about that on different thread, but no solutions so far.
Just taking a long shot here, since you seem to know your stuff.
Thank you for your help so far! Greatly appreciated!!
i just accidentally found out about the wifi problem. so i’m not really a pro. but glad to hear it helped.
about your new problem i dont really have a solution out of the box. but it’s always a good idea to isolate the problem, so you can make conclusions about it. so i would do different tests like do the glitches also appear over DLNA? do the glitches also appear if you play the file via USB connection directly to the TV with external HDD? (<- if that is the case, i looks like its somehow a limitation of the TV itself and not related to plex or bandwidth)
but i cant really tell, i usually dont watch remuxes, only x265/x264 encodes, since they are smaller in size.
