Glad I’m not the only one! App on G5 just goes black after playing a 4k movie on Plex . And app restarts.. where my cx in the other room plays it fine?…
same problem with my LG G4 after upgrading to webOS25. Before this upgrade this specific problem never occurred, after yesterday I performed the upgrade it started to happen watching 4K Dolby Vision content. Going to monitor the situation
I haven’t had this problem on my G4 yet with Plex, but at the weekend I kept getting the same problem on the Discovery Plus app when trying to watch premier league football in UHD.
What is the best way to log as a problem with LG? From scanning through it’s a problem they need to resolve that’s affecting multiple apps!
LG G5 65 inch owner here. Having the exact same issue, anyone get a fixed yet?
I’d like to add it’s only happening on 4K DOLBY VISION content for me
Same problem here, fortunate fortunately not with all videos.
I have an LG G4-65.
Watching HDR 4k Dolby vision/athmos file and after 20-25 minutes it reboots saying freeing memory.
Never happened before on my old LG.
Am plying videos through a Synology NAS and on the Plex LG App.
Any hint on how to solve ?
Same for me on the G5. Playing 1080p and 4K HDR (none DoVi) seems not to trigger the memory limit issue
Hello same here. Lg g4 upgraded to the Web os 2025 the day before yesterday. Since then can’t stream locally, app needs to restart to free up more memory error message constantly on every 4k file. Also called lg about it. For me it happens only on 4k files.
@ChuckPa it’s not the subtitles. It does it in the same files I was playing with no problems on webos 2024. It’s 100% a memory leak on webos 2025 as many many people have reported the same issue on other forums too, reddit etc it’s widespread. The native player also does the same thing.
I have a LG C1 ( a few years older)
I can enable all the extra logging to track it when it happens.
What do I have to do ?
What has to be in the file(s) (lots of unused subtitles?)
How long does it take?
Any help with a “Steps to reproduce” will help me.
With that, and my reproducing it, I can then hand it to the LG team to fix
So let’s say for example as we do not condone piracy for any reason that If I hypothetically try to play the “FALLOUT.S01E01.THE.END.2160P.AMZN.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.HDR.H.265-NTB” everything works at first then at a random time usually in the first 12 minutes the app becomes sluggish and slow (if I press an input it takes 5-7 seconds to register) after that it starts to lose some frames here and there and usually after another 5 minutes the app crashes and restarts saying “app needs to restart to free up more memory”.
This happens only on webos 2025 on 4k content no problem on webos 2024. It happens also on the native media player and jellyfin, I just tested it.
Let’s first confirm the basics.
My TV just updated. I am on software version 03.53.31
This is what my TV reports.
Will it be sufficient to do the test ?
I am on 33.21.85 on webos 2025 lg g4
On plex client version 5.93.2
Platform version 10.2.0
So it seems my TV is too old?
Either way, I’ll give it a try
Which “Dolby Vision” profile?
Profile 5 , Profile 7 , or Profile 8.1 ?
Maybe. Most if not all users I’ve seen with the same problem all are on an Lg g4. Again this happens on everything, native media player, plex, jellyfin you name it. The only 4k videos I can stream without this occurring is in YouTube.
So if it’s happening on multiple players then it really sounds like a LG firmware problem. (which is possible if it’s confined to a specific family under specific conditions)
If I post a 2-3 minute of a 4K H.265 sample, would that be enough to trigger the problem?
I don’t think so. Sometimes it happens in the first 5 minutes, sometimes in 10 minutes, sometimes in 15 minutes. It’s not time consistent. For me usually it starts happening around 7-8 minutes (skips frames app not responding well) and crashes at around 12-17 minutes (app needs to restart to free up more memory).
The testfile I have is very hard on players to begin with.
I use it as a “Break the player” video file.
So far, only the Nvidia Shield is able to play the file without melting.

Sure but if it is indeed a memory leak issue (which it probably is) the file needs to run for at least 15-20 minutes in order to trigger the error.
Let me see what I can do (if my Gdrive is big enough)
