Been running beta for about 48 hours now and I can confirm that dropping the bitrate down to 4 which is 720P fixes the issue. Yes it is Hardware transcoding 1080p down to 720 but it plays perfect as long as you have a system that can handle transcoding. Also on 720p live TV content Hardware transcoding doesn’t even enable. Only on 1080p channels will the transcode/ bit rate drop enable:). It’s a Band-Aid but it works.
So far it’s working but what I find weird is when the firestick buffers and comes back up that’s when it causes the audio video sync issue. Could this be a timing issue and not related to a GPU issue on the fire stick? I tested the hdhomerun app and emby , neither of them have the issue.
I have an older Firestick (maybe just over a year?) with same the issue. Audio is ok but I get either a green screen on most of my display or these lines of blocks any time I play something 720 or higher (I do mostly TV shows). Don’t remember it doing ever before.
Also oddly enough my Kindle FireHD tablet is having the same issue. Doesn’t matter if it’s synced to the tablet or not.
Figured out a fix, just ordered a couple of Mi box s units:) the firestick is a troubled child with a gorgeous picture when it works.
Yeah to be honest I’m more bummed out about the FireHD tablet than I am the Stick. I may have even gotten the stick for free? But I’m going to replace it with a Roku eventually since I’ve been having really good luck with their products. The tablet might just be up for sale soon I guess. =)
Roku is definitely the most Plex stable that I found. The Shield is the most powerful and the mi box is the poor man’s version of it:)
Do you know if the Mi Box S has a hardware de-interlacer? Can’t find anything online
Edit: Looked a bit harder, apparently the chipset has issues with interlaced video.
The mi box has played everything I’ve thrown at it And it actually works really well. Live TV, 4K, HD Content no problem. The only thing is do not do the Android 9.0 software update when it prompts you to. Then you will have a lot of problems lol.
Whats the latest on the Beta version @JasonsPlex … Can anyone get it? If so how do you get it? ta
I ended up getting rid of the My Fire Sticks. But here’s the link to the beta program. The beta doesn’t make any difference with this problem and yes you do get access to new features quicker but that also comes with bugs. I recommend staying on stable unless you want to be a tester.
I’m probably gunna get rid of mine as previously discussed - I have until Feb to back em - Cheers for you advice - so the MI boxes are working well for you?
Yes like I said just don’t do the software update to 9.0 and it will work perfectly for you. Also disable the new video player as with any Android device LOL. you can get them at Walmart anywhere from $30 to $55.
Might be an option as a replacement then although can’t see the Amazon Prime video app listed, is it not on there officially?
That is correct, no prime app yet, android 9.0 update will have it but then plex will not work. I would stay on 8.1 and then check the mi box fourm on facebook every so often to see if they fixed the 9.0 update. I think you can side load in the mean time.
The changes to get round the Google issue have been released for the Plex for Android for Amazon Fire Stick 4K - in version 7.28.0.15501
Release Notice
- Live TV: force transcoding of unsupported interlaced content on Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.
As I’ve reported in a separate thread: this has still not entirely resolved the problem, I regularly see freezing even with this version. I would be grateful if this could be looked into - note the channel needs to be left on for a while for a freeze to happen.
I have replied here Live TV still freezes for certain content on Fire TV 4K
It could be because the channel is switching between interlaced video and not interlaced.
The change was an attempt to circumvent a device issue and this does not appear to help all cases
This link shows recent progress concerning the device issue FTV Stick 4K interlaced video playback leads to media player crash · Issue #94 · amzn/exoplayer-amazon-port · GitHub
We have just released Plex for Android 8.0.0.which introduces an app setting to disable transcoding on Amazon Fire for interlaced video
See release note:
- [TV] Live TV: Amazon Fire TV Stick 4k users can now disable transcode of interlaced streams.
The transcoding was introduced to circumvent the Amazon Fire 4k TV issue covered by this: FTV Stick 4K interlaced video playback leads to media player crash · Issue #94 · amzn/exoplayer-amazon-port · GitHub
Unfortunately whilst the transcoding fixed the problem for some users, other users especially ones with HD Homerun that does its own transcoding had issues with this change. So now we have a user setting to disable this transcoding if it is causing a problem
The transcoding and the related setting is temporary until the underlying issue is fixed by Amazon
Thanks to you and your team for help on this issue. This hasn’t solved the issue for me on UKHD channels. ( I have never had any issues on SD channels) Exactly as original post described, picture pauses sound contiues. perhaps during the commercials there was a quick switch from p to i and it didnt transcode?
I appreciate this thread is about 4k fire tv stick, but FYI this problem appears to be almost identical on Nvidia shield (cube). Albeit it takes longer to produce the problem. I purchased this device (at 3x the price) because of the problem with the 4k stick. I am on version 8.0.0.17276. (no option to disable transcode of interlaced, in advanced settings) watched a whole programme since my last post (1hr 20mins ish) only thing notable was during the adverts/commercials the audio had a slight twitch/crackle/ poor quality at some points to it. At approx 14:18 comming out of the commercials into a new programme the picture and sound froze. 14_18_05_05_20_ channel 5 hd paused.txt (1.1 MB) Plex Media Server Logs_2020-05-05_14-19-59.zip (5.6 MB)
