Live TV & DVR Gets stuck - Could not tune channel / Constant freezing

@carldickson what device are you using for a client, server and what tuner?

I have a new issue now when switching between channels. clicking on a different channel whilst playing live TV comes up with an ā€œError: Recording failed. Please check your tuner or antenna.ā€ error. Trying again, when no other channel is streaming is fine.

@InfernoJaffa so you’re unable to open the channel or is thats a message that pops up in the bottom of the channel while watching? If it’s unable to open and you try to click it again will it open?

Here’s a video of it: https://youtu.be/kptK_QSDV5s

Yet to try on my Shield.

@InfernoJaffa what client device is that? Also what server are you running and what tuner?

@JasonsPlex
Server Version#: 1.22.0.4163 (Synology DS218+)
Client: FireTV 4K Stick
Player Version#: PlexForAndroid-8.15.0.23515-d988edae-Armv7aAmazonFireExo.apk
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO HDHR5-4DT

Opened a new thread for testing 8.15. Please report client problems there. @InfernoJaffa I already added yours. Your Server problem is still open and not sure if anyone is looking at it, I just rolled mine back.

Edit
The link that I provided above where I was trying to consolidate any problems that came up on the alpha 8.15 built has been taken down. I thought by donating my time this would have been a good idea to track these problems and squash them before beta. I’m not a Plex employee so I’m probably not the person that should be running that, and I respect that.:upside_down_face:. Although I still think someone should be running it to make it easier for all the users to track, at least until it hits beta. Any problems with this build I think you can post in the link below even though it says fire stick as that’s where the build was released. I’m just super happy that 8.15 fixes most of the buffer problems, even though a couple problems have come up on this build it’s to be expected till it gets polished.

Nvidia Shield and HD Homerun

@carldickson That’s interesting I have not been able to do that on 8.15 and I’m running a 2019 Shield pro & tube, with a hdhomerun.

Ill do more testing over the weekend

Thank you and if you’re able to duplicate please send the logs to him. Have a good weekend!

I see on the list of things needing attention was buffering while recording, that was what I was doing… So it might of been that issue

Ok thank you! I’m testing that tonight along with another member as well.

Yeah I can confirm when a recording starts and your watching the channel it starts buffering, was ok previous to that

I suspect that your post was deleted because you had download links for the Plex for Android app beta builds there

What is the current position with these issues after upgrading to the 8.15 beta ? You mentioned elsewhere that it is much better now. If there are still issues - please point me to the post with the problem and logs

There is a post now concerning the crashes on the beta when using Live TV - see

Hi! With 8.15.0.23515 the problems in the PM are current to my knowledge, 8.15.0.23605 may fix some but it does not work at all and a patch is coming out later today from my understanding :). The Buffer loop problem is a lot better if not 100% resolved in some cases.

Android 8.15.0.23515

•90 minute buffer, FIXED
•30 minute buffer, FIXED
•Android Channel duplication, FIXED
•Android and Roku Channel duplication local, NEEDS ATATTENTION, I sent logs
• Channel can load in choppy Shield, NEEDS ATATTENTION, I sent logs
• Recent channels not updating after watching a show, NEEDS ATATTENTION, I sent logs
• Reported by users when switching channels from guide firestick will pop up with a recording error message , NEEDS ATATTENTION
• Watch Channel while its recording buffers, NEEDS ATATTENTION
•Fire Tv Buffer Loop, INVESTIGATING, unfounded
•When changing the audio channel in the Plex player on Live TV it crashes the app, NEEDS ATATTENTION,

I have back dated my 1 shield to 8.11 which is stablish and put my other 3 to the side for later use or sale. Just went and purchased Roku Ultras to use with Plex for now:). I appreciate the response! Hope you have a great day!

Thanks - there is no buffering showing at the Plex Media Server side. So could be internal to the android app player

There are some improvements coming along in Plex for Android 8.15 and there is also a further change expected in 8.16 that reduces the load on the plex media server in terms of requests sent to the server during livetv playback

Please could you check out if this issue still arises in 8.15 when available and let me have debug logs of the android app and Plex Media Server if the issue remains

Thanks

Pretty stable with 8.15 :ok_hand:

That is good news - thanks for the feedback

With the latest beta I get the sound cutting out when its using the dolby audio channel on live tv
