Live TV & DVR - Live TV stopped working after update

Yup, unfortunately it started buffering/crashing again.

Well, not going to bother testing the latest Beta. The sad thing, I am not surprised. Glad I am testing Jellyfin, at least for the past several days it has been a stable platform.
I would still like to see Plex working again since I have a life time Plex Pass.

I checked into rolling back on a public version since all of us were on that when this irritating problem began.

I found that 8.22.0.27533 (AUG24) is the last version i tested to have The liveTv stay alive past 5 minutes into another program and also updates the EPG Automatically. So it has for me which was nice to see again.

Any version beyond this WILL have a problem. I’ve been on this version since yesterday, its done quite well.

Curious to see what ya guys find on it.

Plex Android Public Version Releases

thank you, will download and do some testing over the next 5 days. I don’t expect everything to work, but, playing OTA TV, DVR recording and playback, access and playing movies are basic features that I need.
so again, thank you,

Some quick testing and I believe it’s fixed with 8.25.0.28473-beta. Although I’m very appreciative that this is now fixed, this should have never been released as a public build when it was brought up in beta!

Just loaded 8.25.0.28473. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Well that was quick - after 10 minutes on 8.25.0.28473 it’s buffering again.

Yeah it’s odd I got past the first three minute mark when the show started but when I went back the TV was off so I think it started buffering as well:(.

So far testing of the 8.22.0.27533 app seems to be working. I have only tested the Live TV, not the DVR, that’s next, but I can open and play: previously recorded shows, movies, videos, Live TV (on Plex) & Movies & Shows (on Plex). See how it does tomorrow since in the past after letting the app sit overnight, some menu items have stopped working.
Again, I am running PMS on a Linux PC, and Shield TV (P2897).

app 8.22.0.27533, DVR worked. This app version seems to work, sometimes need to restart it going from one option to another, but it does seem to be working for my setup.
Still trying to decide if I will use Plex as my primary, or use Jellyfin. I do like some of the stuff Plex offers, but since I have been using Plex this is not the first time Plex has broken their own app. But this time seems there is very little interest in fixing it. And Jellyfin, just works, so seems to be a lot less work to use it.
Anyway if you are good with doing manual updates for the other apps you have on your system, then the 8.22.0.27533 is working for now.
At least that’s my take on the situation.

@zello43

Glad to hear it worked out for you too. Hopefully the Plex Employee and developers catch what we’ve been doing as a band-aid for the past month. They can take our efforts and combine it on. Someday they will release a much more stable public version.

Only glitches I’ve found thus far but not deal breakers.

  1. Critic reviews on movies get squished up in the descriptions. < This one happens occasionally. They did a fix to this in a later version but as you know it has the Primary problem.

  2. Plex TV does have a problem loading the guide (back n fourth between side tabs does correct it) it does attempt to load automatically.

I transitioned off of using LG TV Apps to the shield just before this problem happened. I hated the sluggish performance the TV had working with Plex or any app for the matter. The support is low for them as opposed to client devices. I’m pretty satisfied so far.

Hi peeps, A build with the fix has been created and will be released soon:). Most likely a beta but I’m unsure, I asked for a public quick fix release. I’m done with the chat for a while, taking a vacation.

I really hope it would land on a stable public build since alot of people are affected by this problem

Yes, that’s exactly what I think as well. Jellyfin just works. When starting a stream in my living room on Jellyfin, I don’t think ā€œhow’s it not going to work today?ā€ like I do with Plex. With Plex, it seems like I spend 15 minutes troubleshooting for every half hour that I watch. Watching a live recording is just a terrible experience in Plex.

Just loaded 8.25.0.28514, which is new to me but I’m not sure if it’s the beta with the fix referenced by Jason, but if it is it didn’t work. Still getting buffering.

I would wait for the next Beta post since 28514 posted 17-18 hours ago, about 5 hours before JasonsPlex posted about the fix. Also hoping the ā€œFixesā€ will list a fix for ā€œBuffering and App crashā€ so we know the issue has been addressed.

Hey all, can you please check if the issue is resolved on the latest beta (8.25.0.28578-beta) Release Announcements - Android TV beta - #478 by romancamelia

downloaded the apk, will test as soon as I return from trip, hopefully in next couple of days.

Thank you for the heads up

Just installed the beta on Fire OS and it still crashes. Plex Media Server was updated today to 1.24.5.5160-19d8ce86f.

Edit: It’s actually crashing more now than before. Previously it would crash at :03 and :33 minutes while watching TV. Now it’s completely random…

Installed 8.25.0.28578-beta tonight and after 4.5 hours of continuous running I saw no buffering (Shield 2019 running PMS 1.24.4.5081). Will keep an eye on it tomorrow but so far so good.
