Live TV & DVR - Live TV stopped working after update

Have you also installed the latest Android beta?

where can i find that? all i see on download page is link back to amazon to get the version i already have.

i’m hesitant to continue down the rabbit hole here.
is there a good confidence level that android beta will then work?

when will formal released software be available?

thanks,

mike

for a real temporary fix, install PlexMediaServer-1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-x86.exe and plex for android client 7.31 with allow insecure connections set to “always” and old player enabled. thank me later.

im past the 2.5 hour mark and still going strong, no kills and no buffering.

UPDATE:
at the 3 hour mark the buffering has started but still has not been killed.

UPDATE:
the buffering cleared up when my show automatically switched to the next episode.

Question, noticed a new beta Android app ( 8.25.0.28636-beta), does it also have the fix that is in the ( .28578) app ( Player: Live TV OTA Playback could get stuck in buffering) ?

Thanks

Yes, everytime we release a new beta it includes all the fixes and features from previous versions.

thank you

I was surprised how hard it is to find tutorial here on how to send logs.
Could you please permalink that info in the forum?

I sent you the PMS logs via DM. I will probably also need to send you the AndroidTV logs since this issue of playback crashing every 3 minutes seems to be happening only on AndroidTV devices, although FF/Rewind for LiveTV is still not working in Roku as well.

this is not just a linux plex server issue. it is also happening on windows 10 plex server. it is also a combination of both plex server version and android client apk version. this issue was first brought up 1 year ago in 2020 in another post that is still open.

i know for a fact it is releated to the ops post because i tried rolling back the plex windows server to 1.19 and downgraded my android client to 7.31 which has completely fixed the issue.

i dont understand why plex team memebrs and plex staff are asking anyone for logs related to this issue. they should use a little bit of money they recieved from plex pass subscriptions to buy their own tuner to test and make their own logs. rocket science is not involved in recreating the issue. all they need to do is update the plex server to the newest version and the plex for android client to the new version and boom, issue occures when they go to watch a stream from the dvr/tuner after the reported time. like what are they doing with the money they get from plex pass subs?

This topic is about a problem with OTA Live TV on Android where it stops working within an intermittent time window and is stuck on buffering.

It has been verified by a few people on this thread, including the OP, as well as our internal testing team that this issue has been fixed.

The fix is included on the latest stable release → Plex for Android - #404 by geosidi and has been verified to work with the latest stable PMS version.

I’m going to keep an eye on this thread, for people who are still having problems around that bug.
But for any other issues, please let’s discuss on related threads.

Is the latest server beta required for this to work?

I agree with the latest Beta Android and latest beta server ( now public Server build 1.24.5.5173) this intermittent time window buffer issue has definitely been fixed. The other ongoing issues is a systemic problem going all the way up to Elan. But that’s a whole different topic and requires new threads. @geosidi Thank you for your hard work in resolving this problem, this thread should be marked as resolved!

Just curious - what are the other ongoing issues? I know the EPG doesn’t automatically update in app anymore and some button functions for the remote have changed (which technically isn’t a bug but I wish the old control scheme was retained).

Just off the top of my head um LOL,

• Android client live TV micro buffering on Startup
• standard definition channels don’t map correctly
• Roku and Android users can’t watch the same channel on the same Wi-Fi network
• recent channels don’t update on Android client
• live TV goes out on Android client during time change for usually 6 to 12 hours

There’s other things but really don’t feel like going into details. Ultimately we need a better tracking system but this is not going to happen:(.

it started happening again
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-10-28_06-23-09.zip (7.1 MB)

Update Oct 28, everything was fine until the last update where it stopped working and stay on the “Set up plex dvr” page (and my dvr config disapeared). It doesn’t find the dvrs, but I can see them on the network and connect to them (hdhomeruns)

thanks

dear plex team, the buffering problem is a problem with the new player which also exists in 8.25. if i downgrade to plex for android client to 7.31 and enable the old player in settings, the buffering is gone. please look into this or at least for now bring back the option to enable the old player.
