Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for

Ok but how can I check if I use Gracenote ?

If your DVR setup shows a number of channels in parenthesis you are using the Gracenote Guide data now so you do not need to delete and recreate the DVR.

In addition to channel number in parentheses, the bottom of the guide tells you if it is Gracenote.

Hang on, so that means Plex decided to drop Australia (and others) guide data to go to an inferior data provider…?

Yeah no, I’m good with staying with shepherd xml script thanks, at least that’s been consistent, and lets be serious it’s only a matter of time before our Australian television networks sue to have this data feed removed again.

What platform is that? on Plex Web and AppleTV, I do not see that. I have this in settings:

I see that on the Windows 10 Plex app.

Yep… I remember last time all the crap that happened when using the GraceNote feed (I’m in Queensland). Moved to IceTV XML guide and have had no real issues. Think I’ll be staying with that for a while yet.

I see a post here from a “Plex Employee” indicating that they determined that the Gracenote data was superior. Given the history of poor (and non-existent) testing, how the hell is that even possible (to make that decision with confidence)? Oh… I forgot… this is an American product.

Ok thanks I so I don’t need to delete !

Perfect - thanks for the clarification!

If not happy with the results you can try nearby postcodes to see if it better suits

I didn’t think I’d be alone. I imagine 3rd party xml data will continue to be supported, so we should be fine. Then on a good note, we don’t need to reprogram our tuner and guide.

Did as instructed. Nothing in the guide. Deleted again. Rebooted. Added again. Guide appeared for first try. Then, guide was gone with the instructions to refresh. I click refresh and it’s nearly instant 0% initializing and then stops. There is no actual refreshing going on here. It’s a real annoyance… No guide and so no ability to use.

What is the exact menu to look under to see the above? And does anyone have a screen shot of what a Tivo guide would look like?

Since I signed up 12/31/2020 I have no idea if they put me on Gracenote or Tivo database. Under **Manage > Live TV & DVR ** I show:

It appears after channel scan on setup of a Device

How do I tell what channel guide I have without deleting / adding a device?

Look under Settings -> Live TV & DVR (the same screen as your previous screenshot). If you’re using Gracenote (the new provider) it will show “Local Broadcast Listings” with some number of channels in parentheses. For example:

New TV guide looking great for Melbourne, Australia - thank you guys.

One little issue is the icon for Channel 9 is incorrect and shows up as Win TV (this is the regional version of Channel 9).

I deleted/recreated my DVR this past Monday (1/4/2020), but received an email saying that I needed to do this by 1/15. Do I need to actually do that, or am I good? Is there any way to confirm whether my DVR is using Gracenote now? I saw suggestions for confirming if you’re in the UK, but I’m in the US.

Running PMS Version 1.21.1.3830 on an nVidia Shield TV Pro.

Thanks!

OK thanks, I didn’t see that. So it looks like they sent me straight to Gracenote with a 12/31/2020 new setup.

When logged in as web browser admin user I see it under Settings > Manage > Live TV & DVR:

Following the instructions, I went ahead and re-created the DVR. I had to wait for the guide data to refresh completely before I could work on the schedule, which doesn’t seem to match with the notes… suggesting that you could start ot do things in the meantime but maybe not everything would appear. Nothing appeared until after 100%.

But that wasn’t too bad. I went ahead and re-added all my series recordings. But what I was surprised to find was that when I went to check the schedule I had two of everything! The first set at the top showed no upcoming events. The set at the bottom (the newly added ones) had information about upcoming recordings. I removed the schedules showing no events and so far the guide information suggests recordings will happen.

We shall see!

FWIW, I’m running PMS 1.21.1.3876 on a ReadyNAS 528X, running ROS 6.10.4.

Also, if it matters, this is NOT a fresh and clean install… it’s old and crusty. It’s also not the first time I’ve had weird behavior with the DVR schedule when re-creating DVR, though I haven’t done this in a long time. I did it last when I switched from Quatro to Extend device, because the transcoding overhead in PMS for streams was just too much.
