Live TV EPG - The update you’ve been waiting for

I can only start an investigation into the EPG data if I have zip code, lineup name, channel number, channel name, airing times / show / episode names and with some future airing date ./ times as I cannot go back - past EPG data gets purged

@tmembrino @keromeister @darganbright56

I have looked at diagnostics from @pl4151 and I suspect this is a Plex Media Server issue with recordings that have some already in the library - possibly only arising for date/time based airings - eg News

I am going to refer this to the server development team and I have asked @pl4151 for a zip of the EPG database files to go with the PMS Db zip I have

Thank you for looking into it to confirm and finding the right team to look at this.

When I was researching this issue, i first looked on reddit (/r/PleX) and I didn’t find any reports. Now there are multiple people reporting the same with identical symptoms (local news broadcasts stopped being recorded).

https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/12fwz2a/new_plex_dvr_issue_seeking_assistance/

I was having this same issue, all with local channels and got it to start working again.
Here’s a list of everything I tried. I assume you could probably just delete the library and re-add it and it would work again. I would still nuke the folder just in case.

  1. Refreshed Guide - nope
  2. Delete and re-add scheduled item - nope
  3. Delete DVR and re-add DVR pulling new guide data again - nope
  4. Nuked recordings folder
  5. Cleaned Bundles
  6. Optimized Database
  7. Tried to add scheduled recording again - nope
  8. Tried with a temp library pointing to a temp folder - WORKED
  9. Deleted original library/Optimized Database
  10. Cleaned Bundles again
  11. Re-added library, named the same, pointing to original nuked location - WORKED

I was in zip 54923 and it was with a bunch of “Action 2 News” and “Local 5 News” shows. I did notice that the name of “Action 2 News at 5:30” was renamed in the guide to “ABC World News Tonight With David Muir”

It all stopped recording initially on April 6th.

Hey, this list seems to be outdated. Large channels that are available across all mentioned providers are either missing EPG data or, for example, missing logos. Examples include:

CMTV: large news outlet, missing logo in HD variant as well as EPG on that variant as well (Vodafone Provider)

CNN Portugal: Same as CMTV

TVI: outdated logo

Canal Q: mentioned above, but no EPG data in HD variant of the channel

These are just some examples. Mostly I am seeing these disparities between HD and SD variants, with HD variants usually having no EPG data. Any chance that this can be looked at? Is additional data required?

Cheers!

Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS
PMS 1.32.0.6918

I downgraded my PMS to version 1.31.0.6654, since this version was working fine with the EPG data for date/time based programs, and the issue continued to show up. Local news programs would not record the date. Recordings continue to have “-1900-01-01 00 00 00” in the file name. They continue to show as Episode 0. This would seem to imply that the issue is with the EPG data and not with PMS.

There may be several issues

Country / zip code / lineup / channel number / channel name / show name / airing date/time

and I will investigate

There are no episode numbers and so they should appear as dated episodes - with the date derived from the originally available at date time - which is correct

I have reproduced the wrong filenames issue with dates being for year 1900 and I will be referring it to the server team - it may be related to the other bug

Just to provide some additional info, I’m having exactly the same problem darganbright56 reported, in zip 77388 with KHOU News at 10, Scripps News Live, 13 Eyewitness News at 10PM and other news programs. Deleting or renaming the misnamed files seems to fix the problem temporarily until the next episode records. They all show the 1900-01-01 00:00:00 in the file name.

Hi @sa2000. I think this may be (at least part of) the problem. The original air date no longer appears to be present in the database, for episodic content. It is still present at the show level, and for movies, but it is not present for the episodes themselves. The tv.providers.* database contains NULL in metadata_items.originally_available_at for all the episodes’ rows.

There was a time (until very recently) when the ‘originally_available_at’ column in the metadata_items table contained a date/time for all episodes, when available. Now it is only populated for the show itself (not its episodes) and movies. I’m not sure when it changed exactly.

Going off my DVR history this started for all programs starting last Friday 4/7. Everything from 4/6 and before shows airdate information as normal.

Please note that other channels are also affected (no EPG data available):

  • Sky Cinema Action
  • Sky Cinema Best Of
  • Amazon Prime Video (Sports Bar)

Do you need the channel IDs? Did you already forward that issue?

Thank you. Yes that appears to be the issue

I have referred to the Plex Media Server development team

Source of issue identified - whilst it is Plex Media Server that is losing the date / time, it was a change in our EPG backend system adding milliseconds that caused the issue. This is being followed up and should be fixed soon

The problem has just been resolved - please refresh the Guide on your DVRs to pick the metadata

Update: May need to wait for an hour or so for cache to get cleared - sorry for too soon announcement !

Thanks for the quick turnaround @sa2000. Confirming that ‘originally_available_at’ is now being populated for episodes in the ‘metadata_items’ table, at least on my servers.
