Live TV Issue "Error Occurred : A server with the specified hostname could not be found."

The latest client (2025.17.0) fixed the hostname not found error for me. They are still forcing transcodes instead of direct streams but I can play some Live OTA channels now.

In 2025.17.0 however NBC and CBS won’t play unless I’m already recording or watching on another device. Screen stays black.

Attaching my client and server logs for this.

I CAN play and hear all OTA channels as long as I’m either connected by Cellular service (home or away) or connected by Wifi at a remote site. IN BOTH CASES I have to have Allow Direct Play selected in settings.

HOWEVER, when I’m connected by wifi at home, I still get the “Error Occurred: A server with the specified hostname could not be found” message.

It’s been two updates since OTA service became flaky… would be great to hear from someone at Plex.

Mine worked for a short time after getting the latest server software but a couple of updates later and it only works on the web client, both IOS apps for iPhone and iPad do not work. I am running the very latest IOS apps and I get the problem with Plex version 1.41.7.9823-72009823 running on a DS1520+ under DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3 and Plex 1.41.7.9823-60009823 on a DS214+ Running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 8. This is very poor from Plex, not a peep out of them and updates that fix and then break the functionality.

As long as it doesn’t try to transcode the audio stream the latest ios app (2025.17.0 1082) works for me. I just have to make sure allow direct play and allow direct stream is enabled and I have my Local Quality (under the clients Video & Audio setting) set to Maximum.

If plex starts to transcode the audio it uses OPUS and I lose sound but if it direct streams the audio it works fine.

hope this helps

This issue with the Guide being out of sync with real time has been acknowledged and is actively being worked on. It has been reported on several posts. Updates at present are 2 weeks apart.

Do you mind pointing me towards where Plex have confirmed this issue, are working on it, and providing updates? I honestly can’t find anything, beyond a broad reference to Live TV fixes with the initial launch messages and follow-up mea culpa (both single point announcements).

Plex has a long standing challenge with community engagement, specifically with Apple users. Given these forums are our only support path, this really needs some focus.

I think I’ve narrowed it down to my pihole blocking live tv from working. When I switch the DNS server to 1.1.1.1, it works fine. I don’t see any blocked sites triggered in my pihole and have a thread here OTA Live TV not working on 2025.18.0 (hasn't worked in the previous either)

Would anyone mind changing their dns to 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 and verify if live tv starts working for them?

Well still not working for me. Checked the HD homerun and updated it to FW20250623 (was on 20231214) and I have the latest IOS app on my phone, updated today, running Plex 1.41.9.9961-72009961 on a Synology DS1520+. Same problem with my iPad. However, using the piex web interface the tuner is seen and works fine.

Come on Plex, we have not heard a peep out of you. This is an important functionality that has just died.
