Live TV restarts show after completion in web player

Same thing here. Watching the morning news and at the end of the hour, rather than continuing with the next live show, it just restarts the news from the point that I started watching it. It’s very annoying. Does anybody have the bug ID? I’d like to upvote it.

Latest Media Server version 1.20.3.3401-ea77aa162 does not fix the issue.

Same issue here, piling it onto the list of people having the same issue.

Figured I’d also comment that this isn’t fixed in the latest release.
It’s quite annoying if you’re trying to watch sports, like, say the baseball playoffs and it reverts to when you started watching the game.

Same problem here. Once a show ends instead of playing next show, the stream just starts back over.

Noticed this as well watching live TV, so NO SURPRISE that after first being reported 25 DAYS AGO it is still an issue.

edit: and I cannot start a recording from the beginning midway through said recording - there is now no offer to start from the beginning, so that rules out time shifting live TV - I’ve said it before but this is USELESS.

As always, it’s my pleasure to pay Plex for me to beta test their dodgy product!

Just adding myself to the chorus of people hoping this gets fixed. This becomes more of a hassle when watching live sports since it can happen in the final minutes of a game.

Same here. Restarts at the end of the program end time. So annoying.
Does not happen with Samsung TV client.

I really don’t think this is a client issue, this is happening on the windows client windows web player also a couple of android boxes and 2 amazon sticks. this has been broke over 2 months now since the new feature of detecting and skipping commercials. live TV is useless and basically unusable and the only thing i pay a plex pass for so will be unsubscribing shortly. there has been 3 updates since this bug all adding new features thats not needed but not actually fixing the problem. Emby is looking more and more interesting as the absance of plex and waiting for 3 months for the thread to close is becoming the norm.

this is my logs

This seems to me like the Plex server is actually crashing during live TV and when the device picks up the stream again its denied.

would like a fix or someone at plex to take a look but i think there is more chance of a cure for covid

Can someone post a version for Linux that works? It’s ok Filing a bug report but my whole home Kit revolves around plex and Live TV does not work. as you lock any of the old versions away from your website forcing only one version to be downloaded i simply cannot watch TV,

@me_tommouk_com I downgraded to the docker container tagged linuxserver/plex:1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-ls109 and live tv is working for me again. Hope that helps.

I think i am done with plex never seem to be able to fix the bugs 2 months without live TV working and can’t download an older version that was working. I think I am moving to Emby tonight plex is too frustrating and slow to fix stuff. You say you downgraded how did you do this I can’t download the .deb file I need as it’s not available on the website to download. all this for £70 a year just becoming a joke.

@me_tommouk_com I hear you. Sounds like my setup is a little different then yours. I’m running Plex (and JellyFin, xteve, and dizqueTV) in Docker on Ubuntu. Docker is sort of like a virtual machine that runs a single application (but without the overhead of emulating a full OS.) Each application and all dependencies is in a ‘container’ which you grant access to certain folders on your PC. Containers are available from lots of different sources and there is an official Plex container if you prefer. If you have ever heard someone refer to their “Plex stack” they are talking about the combination of Docker containers they are running. It’s pretty amazing what some people have put together.

Long winded reply - but basically I deleted the current Plex container and downloaded the last live TV working container I could find (which I think is linuxserver/plex:1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-ls109. Docker Hub has plex containers going back 3 years if you want a different one.)

If you decide to install Docker the command to get the version I used is:
docker pull linuxserver/plex:1.19.5.3112-b23ab3896-ls109

There’s a sub-forum for using Plex in Docker hosted in this forum

Happy to share configs if you decide to go this route!

Are there still no infos when it will be fixed in an update?

It looks like it will take until early November at least.

lol any refunds for 2 months of a plex pass being more than useless.

I’m looking at Embly again as a TV/DVR replacement for Plex too. I’m paying Pass for a broken live tv function. How did they not catch this in testing prior to release, and why has an emergency fix been taking so long? Beta server and rolling back multiple versions did not fix it for us. Based on this and other’s comments, changes (enhancements?) to the EPG are affecting all server versions. One clue that something is crashing besides the erratic live tv behavior is this occasional large. lowres, text flashing on the veiwer:.

there are so many other things that plex is just for bad for and I think the more a
use it I am starting to realizing it, so …

I have a varied amount of different devices some good some bad admit. i have 3 devices belonging to family members in a different county. the whole way the server works I think they need to rethink and start classing users. 1 people with qnaps and devices and ones like me IT infrasture engineer and an actual server and SAN to work with. Nothing wrong with the users in the A bracket they will spend £180 on an Nvidia shield to get it all to work so I don’t want to argue about devices, please.

so Plex priorty seems to be direct play. so they are constantly fixing issues on all the client devices and their quarks. the thing that really makes my piss boil is every video I watch live TV, general stuff there is always something I have to do to get it to play, and the thing I have to do to get it to play varies from the device to device. so 4K vid sound is not stereo, force encoding by subtitles. TV stops at adverts force encode by changing resolution. every resolution for playback errors i see on this forum gets resolved by forcing the server to encode.

So rather than chase your tail round in a circle would it be out of this world to add an Expert Expert option. simply called My plex server is actually decent and can handle it I am not a nutter and know what these settings mean called let my server encode as defualt. I would happly sign a disclaimer that if I ticked the box and it blew my house up and it was my fault i would agree. to it i would just love it if my server can encode everything to such and such a rate and 99% of all my agonies will go away

just look through the forums, the problem is your device. How dare you. you make the app and server and put on the front of your page that that server and that device works and is compitable. Plex software writers are obviously struggling to keep up with all the OS’s and all the clients so just keep some of us happy with a little check box.

To add the tone of frustration. I am the lead developer for dizqueTV, an application that was initially built on top of Plex’s DVR support to give people the chance to watch their plex content but in a TV format. Unfortunately, there have been more and more bugs appearing in Plex Live TV (not the Free Live TV thing). This bug specially is quite deadly.

In our support chats we’ve been feeling forced to recommend using other clients specially now that users can’t really use Plex to play our streams due to this bug. We’ve begun recommending Emby or an IPTV player to play this stuff because the Plex Live TV players hasn’t been a viable alternative in a while.

Many users have begun requesting us for support for using other media libraries. Because it makes sense. If your main use of Plex is to host the media files used by dizqueTV. And you have to use Emby to play your dizqueTV channels, then it’d make more sense to host the media library in Emby and get rid of one dependency.

Emby is not perfect as a player and in all honesty, my life as dizqueTV’s dev would be much better if Plex DVR worked correctly and didn’t break with every new version. I would say that 25% of the support questions I get in our chat are because of this bug. People just assume that our young project is the one that’s causing this bizare repeating stream glitch instead of realizing that for some reason Plex’s mature platform is doing this.

PS:: Another problematic thing is the new “Free” Live TV channels. Everyone can have an opinion regarding these live TV channels’ quality, but the thing is, that it is at the moment completely impossible to have a proper experience iif you want to be able to watch stuff from both of your HDHR and the new free channels. There’s two separate TV guides, one doesn’t allow recording and they are in different categories.
