i feel your pain, I am not a plex hater I think it has been awesome. but my idea of a media center is I can give someone a box or plugin a box click the icon and enjoy. over the last 6 months, it has seemed to move away from this more than towards it!
every video i play or live TV a have to piss about with something to make it play properly. I brought all fiesticks for at home with the thinking that if i can solve the problem on these i can be happy… far from it.
all i seem to do is turn the volume up when people talk and turn it down when a car drives past.
whats the solution. put subtitles on force an encode.
so my norm for watching anything is click what i want to play bang subtitles on and then it might be watchable or even worse change the resolution of my firestick to something lower than its native (again to force encode) and at least i am not pissing about all the time
so far the best solution is pre encode all your vids. if that’s the best then sorry your software has failed. use software to correct what the software is supposed to do in the first place lol
Force encode on the server none of this.
I think I am committed to trying something else in all honesty
The Price Is Right started at 9am after being selected from the guide; the show just stopped repeating at 11:51am because of a ‘live playback error the session is ended’ using hdhomerun quatro and a win 10 pc.
The guide isn’t exactly snappy either. I keep trying new batteries in my computer mouse, when it’s pointer doesn’t move within the guide.
Updated to PMS 1.20.3.3437 and still an issue.
well the post are getting read just ignored as just had the off comment hidding your posy. that’s me subscriptions and cancel. tara
Backed up database from 1.20.3.3437, shut down PMS in terminal, installed Version 1.19.4.2935 (on Ubuntu), restarted, and it appears to have somewhat dealt with the live tv issue; however, none of my movie libraries are updating as new content is added now so this is not manageable workaround for any amount of time (for me anyway). Here’s 1.19.4.2935 on my google drive if anyone else on debian linux would like to rollback.
Just +1’ing here. I have the same issue. version 1.20.3.3437 running on Ubuntu LXC container, and have exactly what people are describing for the last few months. Im sure Plex will fix it, would be good to have their input on this forum to update us.
+1. This has been an issue for almost 2 months. PMS on Windows. Default EPG provider.
Any client playing live TV. It may have coincided with a Silicone Dust HDHomeRun firmware update (which is pushed by Silicone Dust and I can’t find any easy way of rolling back the firmware). What tuners are y’all running?
SD Home Run. Mine was working fine right up until I had to reinstall my plex server on my QNAP because it wouldn’t start anymore. The issue came back after I reloaded plex MS and I cant get rid of it!!! I don’t believe this thread has any of the PLEX developers looking at it. I’m very disappointed in PLEX for issues like this that aren’t being fixed but they have no problem pushing out new functionality that I really don’t care about.
It’s taken me some time to find this exact thread. Been looking at similar old threads that seem to get closed due to lack of interest (and support from Plex ?). I’ve had lots of issues with recordings missed mostly down to guide not recognising new recordings ? Wrong guides for channels ,and channels an hour ahead or behind. This one may be the nail in the coffin and time to look elsewhere, so glad I didn’t pay for lifetime ? From my investigations and I even went to the trouble of building clean machine and installing fresh Server. It seems like it has nothing to with the Server. However using an older desktop client no issue, just get this really annoying message about updating everytimeyou run!
BUMP
Same thing here. Been affected for a couple months. When the current show ends, it does not roll over to the next show on the channel and restarts at the beginning or where I started watching.
HDHomerun Prime 3 tuner
Plex on freenas - just updated to the latest version 1.20.3.3437.

[Live TV Error all it says is play back error this session has ended] this error has appeared with this issue too. New machine Fresh win10 latest server last night . Latest Desktop client gives this issue, have tested 1.16 and 1.18 neither shows this problem. Also minor issue may be linked ? BBC1 HD plays fine but even with latest client BBC1 std audio keeps reverting unknown stereo no matter how many times I change
Do you happen to know what version of the client you’re using w/o issues? I’m assuming by “client” you mean “Plex Media Player?” What platform/os are you running it on if so? Are you running the latest version of the server?
just read your second comment…what OS are you running? Windows?
I’m on win10 1909 for client and server just tested Chrome and Edge both have the same issue, no issue on Android… Of cource you can get out of the loop by stopping replaying the channel but it’s a pain. Link to 1.18 is further up this page seems to work
Agreed on the sports deal. This is a problem and I hope it gets fixed ASAP.
Another winning bug that runs and runs!
Watching something live just before a recording takes place then takes you back to when you started watching live tv.
Getting my moneys worth with Plex as always…
Is it possible that PLEX will end its support and the ability to stream live tv?
Especially after this serious bug?
That would be very annoying for lifetime pass users!
That’s how conspiracy theories usually start.
The issue is known, it is fixed and it just needs to be released in a public server release. Which will probably be in early November.
