@OttoKerner Is the fix currently in the Beta channel right now? Can we freely jump between Beta and Public on the server side?
No, it is not in the beta branch either.
What I meant was a “publicly available” server release. i.e. either “beta” or “release”.
So, by that reckoning it will be TWO MONTHS to squash this bug that was introduced by a server update.
Not really good enough is it?
By any stretch of the imagination.
And you talk about conspiracy theories LMAO! Well no wonder when bugs go on and on and on while new “features” are constantly churned out…
edit: maybe I should make myself crystal clear here.
I’m not actually asking a question - I’m TELLING you(r Plex overlords) that as a paying customer waiting two months to nip a bug that affects the core functionality is just not good enough at all.
Who actually tests the updates that go out to everyone and potentially breaks everyones’s Plex ? Pretty sure that’s what Beta testers are for ? this wouldn’t and shouldn’t have happened ? If it’s a know bug why not let us know, in stead of ltting us wasting time trying to find out what’s wrong ??? Feeling less like a paying customer and more like a tester
Yes, you can switch between Public and Beta. The current beta does not have a fix to date.
In fact, just tonight, I had to roll back to the last production version (Public) because the new beta plexmediaserver_1.20.4.3517-ab5e1197c_amd64 is crashing my Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS system (w/ WinTV-quadHD PCI) at about the same places where it used to have the “Live TV program restarts” bug.
This is the first time I’ve had software crash this system. Just watching Live TV on Plex and the computer suddenly turns off and restarts. That’s way worse than the playback being screwy!
Update: contrary to my earlier post above, this is not a server issue but an issue of the web app.
Apologies, this was my mistake!
It means that the issue will not be fixed with a server update, but with an update of the web app. (it may be included in the coming v 4.46)
But this also means that the hosted web app https://app.plex.tv will get the fix first.
The desktop player for Windows/Mac will get it only with a delay (can be days or even weeks).
@OttoKerner I was watching the news this morning and for the first time I didn’t have to hurry up and restart Live TV when the 7:00 program started. Can you confirm if the fix went in for the web player (app.plex.tv/desktop)?
Yes, v4.46.1 went live a few hours ago: Plex Web
How will we be notified when the update is available?
It is already available. https://app.plex.tv
Sorry … I meant the PLEX app for MacOS and Windows 10?
The app will self-update.
You may also set the status of this thread to “Watching”: Plex for Mac and Windows
Seems to be working better for me
Oh good, yet again, another “that’ll do” update!
I stupidly ran an update on my Linux Plex Server to then watch Live TV on the local Web App (ie http://LOCAL_IP_ADDRESS:32400/web) to realise I was watching the same episode of a TV Show I’d just watched! Plex, PLEASE, will you stop f&^%ing about with stuff that works! And fix the stuff that doesn’t. Or are you just creating jobs for yourselves on purpose and pissing off the people who have paid for your software?!
@Craigusus, I’ve had the BBC news on the webplayer on for about the last 2 hours (HDHomeRun), and no restart or backtracking, and the EPG has gone through 4 programs no issues, so not sure why its not working for you.
Appreciate that updates sometimes dont go to plan, and understand its frustrating, but Software development is really hard, having to cater for every machine out there in quite a few configurations. Plex has come a long way, and they are pretty quick at fixing. Software Dev is a thankless task, so hats off to plex for what they do do… what happens if they decide one day to “jack it all in”… we’d be in darkness
@rdenny10 And if knew why it wasn’t working for me I wouldn’t be posting, along with all the others, saying it’s not working.
If this was some freeware I was downloading from GitHub or the likes, I’d understand more. But I’m not, I’m using software that I have paid for.
What I am saying is Plex need to test, beta/alpha/whatever, ALOT more before it’s released to the wild. Every update feels likes it’s a halfarsed job each time proving it’s not been tested correctly. Especially when areas break that have apparently not been ‘fixed’ in the release notes. I have been with Plex for many years and each version just get worse and worse.
@rdenny10 @Craigusus I am still having problem, with the OTA channels going thru my reciever in my server. I agree this is a paid service and should work as promoted. I have back tracked a few version of the server, but have not had much time to work on a fix. But will do this weekend. I am also going to try for some sort of compensation.
Yes, we noticed last night the problem resolved. I just checked, and we are now on Web Player Version 4.46.2. Good news!
Yes, I also noticed that the Web Player Plex is now working. I hope that the Plex app (Windows 10 & MacOS) will also be updated soon.
It appears the issue is fixed, but I think there is another issue that I’ve noticed both before and after this fix went in… Live TV randomly will stop in the web player with this message:
Playback Error
This live TV session has ended
